Last year, we saw Samsung release a slightly tuned-up version of the Galaxy S 4, complete with LTE-A support. The same thing happened this year, with the GS5 Broadband LTE-A getting released in South Korea with a Snapdragon 805, 3 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage, all slightly better than what comes with the standard Galaxy S 5. The most important difference, however, is the 2k screen that comes with the LTE-A version of the device.
The GS5 LTE-A marks the first official 2k smartphone from Samsung, and while the screen on the original Galaxy S 5 is very impressive, it looks like Samsung’s 2k panel is showing some visible improvements. Benchmarks in color accuracy and saturation all score the 2k screen noticeably better than the 1080p screen. The higher resolution screen loses a bit of maximum brightness compared to the 1080p display, but that’s a small trade-off for the marked improvements in so many other areas.
AnandTech goes into detailed scrutiny of the device’s screen, as well as how it compares to other Android devices and Apple’s iPhone, and the GS5 with LTE-A typically comes out close to the top.
