A new rumor has been spreading through some Asian news sources and has started to spread around the globe accusing Samsung of using recycled AMOLED displays in the manufacture of new smartphones. However, Samsung flat out denies this is the case and questions whether the original source was ever an employee and whether the “proof” – videos and images – were even taken in a Samsung facility.
The original accusation came from an individual claiming to be a Samsung employee who posted videos and images supposedly taken inside a Samsung factory showing the recycled displays on the assembly line. The claims were posted on several social media networks and started to gain a viral life when Samsung stepped in with a statement on their official site.
According to Samsung, the claims are “not true at all.” The company’s statement explains that recycled displays may be used when making warranty service repairs in an effort to reduce costs. Even in those cases though, Samsung says they inform the customer of the use of a recycled display and obtain consent to do so before actually installing it.
Do you think it is possible the claims may be true and Samsung is just covering themselves with their denial or is the company being targeted by a smear campaign?
