China punishes Qualcomm after antitrust investigation concludes

The antitrust investigation of Qualcomm in China has concluded and the hammer has been brought down. The Chinese National Development and Reform Commission is delivering fines and changing the company’s licencing fees. The licensing fees offered by Qualcomm will be lowered by an undisclosed amount. This will make the use of Qualcomm’s components much more accessible for hardware manufactuers in the Chinese market. Also, Qualcomm is losing its reverse patent license that was used “on its clients to lift their patent fees to each other.” It was an agreement that disallowed patent royalties to be picked up by other Qualcomm clients.
