Another day, another problem for the greatest smartphone you’ll have a hard time being able to buy. According to a report from Ausdroid, the OnePlus One is facing touchscreen issues. Relating to the Cyanogenmod Jira bug, both companies are feeling the heat, so to speak, regarding the issue. So far the bug report has over 340 votes and 370 votes suggesting that there are a number of people affected by this. A member of the Cyanogen Inc/OnePlus team replied in a Reddit thread showing concern for the issue.
Issues with the touchscreen were first reported by users in August and Cyanogen and OnePlus have been working hard to fix multi-touch issues with patches but many users are still reporting ghost touch and touchscreen issues that are making the device somewhat unusable. Another Reddit thread pushing for pressure on the smartphone company received some attention from the OnePlus crew. The post has been since edited for language but originally it stated:
“Guys seriously, you cannot put more pressure on us because we’re already f**king panicking over this shit. Sorry for the language. Having a touch screen phone with a non-working touchscreen is death to a company. We’re not idiots, we understand this very well. Right now we have 2 issues categorized as “holy f**k if we don’t fix this we’re dead” – customer support and touch screen issue. Trust me on this one, we’re taking it super duper serious and have significant amounts of man-power dedicated to both of these issues.”
Cyanogen Inc. has since merged a firmware update to the touch panel into its kernel source. For those who want to experiment and have a rooted OnePlus One, there’s a beta kernel for you flashing convenience that may alleviate your issues. The reporter for Ausdroid has flashed it and has said that he is noticing better touchscreen performance. For those of you who aren’t rooted, OnePlus is taking the issue “super duper” seriously and an OTA fix will come sooner rather than later, at least according to rumors.
