NVIDIA Makes their Shield Tablet Official, 8-inch Gaming Tablet for $299

Just last week we saw some leaks of a new gaming tablet from NVIDIA that would be known as the Shield Tablet. Now it’s official. NVIDIA is beginning pre-orders today with it launching in the US and Canada on July 29th. What we are looking at here is an 8-inch tablet, powered by an NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor and 2GB of RAM. The display is a 1920×1200 resolution IPS LCD display, so it’ll look quite nice. It also has 16GB of internal storage available. There’s also a 5MP camera on the front and the back. It also supports HSPA+ and LTE bands for both AT&T and T-Mobile, so those looking for an LTE version can pick one up as well. The LTE version is bumped up to 32GB of storage as well.

You’ll be able to play any game from Google Play, any Tegra optimized game or a game streamed from your PC using GameStream. With the Tegra K1 inside, you can output 4K onto an external display as well, like a TV or another monitor. On the bright side, the Shield Tablet isn’t all for gaming. As the tablet is running on Android 4.4.2, so it’s a full-fledged tablet. Meaning you can check your Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, etc from this tablet as well which I think makes the $299 price tag a pretty darn good price.

It seems like NVIDIA really learned from their mistake with the Shield last year, as the Shield Tablet will be available next Tuesday, July 29th. It’ll also be available for $299. Which makes it one of the cheaper 8-inch tablets out there. The 32GB LTE model will be $399. If you’re looking to pick up the controller as well, that will set you back about $59. Finally the Shield Tablet cover is going to cost $39. So much better pricing than the Shield was last year, especially after being announced 6 months before release.
