Acer Chromebook CB5 spotted, packs a Tegra K1 CPU with 4GB RAM

Up until now the Chromebook space has been dominated by chips from Intel and, to lesser extent, Samsung’s EXYNOS. If a new listing on Swedish retailer Komplett.se proves to be correct, Nvidia could soon be joining the party as well with a Tegra K1-powered device.

According to the product listing for an Acer Chromebook CB5 the upcoming device features a Tegra K1 CPU with 4GB RAM, a 32GB SSD and a 13.3-inch HD display. Judging by the images there’s also a headphone jack, two USB ports (3.0 likely) and an ethernet port.

So how likely is this the real deal? While we can’t say with 100% certainty, the photos look legit. Since the listing was discovered the site has also pulled down pricing and spec details, though at least the images and product name remain.

In the original listing, the Chromebook was said to be available starting August 1st, but keep in mind there’s a possibility this was merely a placeholder. Considering there are currently no commercial Tegra K1 devices on the market right now it remains unseen how the CB5 will perform when compared to Intel-based alternatives, though if priced right it could still find a fair level of success.
