Moto 360 Gets Minor System Update That Fixes A Few Bugs, Doesn't Bump Up The Version Number

Moto360-ThumbA number of Moto 360 owners have received a system update that doesn't seem to do anything and leaves the version number the same. We've reached out to Google about it, and we've received confirmation that an update is rolling out that merely fixes a few bugs. That's all we were left to go on, but the lack of a number bump leaves us to believe that this release is specific to the Moto 360 and simply tweaks a few things that don't apply to other watches.

Android TV Might Soon Land in France Thanks To Free

AH Google IO-1409 Android TV 2.1

Google’s annual I/O event this year was full of little nuggets of information. Most of the headlines recently have focused on Google’s new operating system, Android L (Android 5.0) and also Android Wear – the operating system underlining all android-based wearables such as smartwatches. However, there was also the other announcements which should not be so easily overlooked. One of my personal favourites was that of Android TV. As a big TV fan (and of course an Android fan) the thought of two of my favourite entities coming together is extremely exciting.

For those of you who might have missed the announcement or need a quick catch-up, Android TV is exactly what it sounds like. It will offer an android-based user experience directly on your TV. No more need to cast your smartphone’s screen or make do with the poor performance of most smart TV’s limited interface. Android TV is highly expected to run on Android’s new operating system (L) and will come with Google’s Play Store built-in. This should overall be quite a game-changer for the current status quo of both TV providers and set-top boxes alike. It is currently expected Android TV boxes will be available in the US within the next few months. This will presumably happen once L is released (and maybe in time for the Christmas market), but what about the rest of the world (Yes America, there are other countries too)?

Well the latest rumor is that France very well might be seeing Android TV soon. France Telecoms Company ‘Free’ have been in the market for their new evolution of set-top boxes and according to FrAndroid, Free seem extremely keen to make sure their new box is an Android one. In particular this Free/Android alliance might take the form of a paid-TV Android service. Unfortunately, at the moment details on this rumored deal are extremely limited and the current information was provided to FrAndroid based on the usual ‘unnamed sources’. As always with information like this, it is best to not read too much into it until further details or alternative sources start to confirm the details. You will of course be informed of any further details on this when (and if) they come in. So who out there is waiting for Android TV? Will this be a game-changer? Let us know what you think by leaving a comment.

iPhone 6+ fails a minor bend test, Note 3 shows it how it’s done [VIDEO]

Often times than not, the debate between plastic and metal phones comes down to two issues. The first issue is style — some feel metal just looks nicer. And if a phone is built well enough, that is often the case. The second issue is durability, which has long been thought to belong to the metal-donning studs of the industry.

But a recent bend test could change that thinking. Unbox Therapy decided to put an iPhone 6+ through a rudimentary bend test. The test mechanics were simple: apply as much force in trying to bend the device with your hands as possible. How’d it do? Not well. Not only did it bend relatively easily, the screen cracked when trying to reverse the damage.

iphone 6 plus bend test

The same test being applied to the Galaxy Note 3? It basically came out like a champ. The tester claimed he applied as much force to the Note 3 as he did to the iPhone 6+ — if not more — and didn’t get much more than a slight warp in the plastic’s shape. And by “slight” we mean it was almost unnoticeable. He did note that the device made the type of sound that would make you cringe, but in the end it stood up quite firmly.

We typically wouldn’t worry too much about a bend test that puts much more pressure onto a phone than most everyday situations would, but with how big these devices are and the advent of puke-worthy skinny jeans, we’d say it has its place. Whether this issue will show up to haunt Apple in widespread fashion remains to be seen, but all we can see is be careful not to sit on that thing, or any other phone for that matter. Be sure to watch the two bend tests above and below.

Samsung’s Gear S is coming to US carriers in the next few weeks

samsung gear s aa 19

After numerous rumors that Samsung would release a “Gear Solo” watch that had its own 3GB capabilities and was more than just a companion watch, the Gear S was finally unveiled just ahead of IFA — though it has yet to actually hit the North American market. So when will the watch actually arrive in the US, and which carriers will support it? Samsung has now revealed the Gear S will arrive to all four major US carriers this fall.

As for specific dates, only AT&T has piped up and revealed that it will offer the watch nationwide on September 26th. More than likely other carriers will offer the watch around the same window, so late-September or early-October (though that’s just speculation on our part). Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any word on pricing just yet.

Turning to the specs, the Gear S is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM, 4GB storage, a heart rate monitor and runs on Tizen as opposed to Android. The main calls to fame for the watch are its abilities to make calls and receive texts like a phone, and its curved design that stands out from other smartwatch offerings out there (though it’s somewhat akin to the Gear Fit).

What do you think, intrigued by the Gear S? How much would you be willing to pay for Samsung’s stand-alone smartwatch?

Deal: $24 for Feather Buds Bluetooth Earbuds

Within the last year, I switched to wireless Bluetooth earbuds for workouts and can tell you that I will never go back to wired. There is a freedom you get when no wires are attached to your phone and you need to move, whether that be in a workout capacity or just traveling from one place to another. The problem with wireless Bluetooth earbuds is that most aren’t cheap. I currently use Jaybird Bluebuds X, which carry a price well over $100. They are great, but if you don’t feel like forking out that kind of cash for a set of buds that you may only use in certain situations, but still want to test the Bluetooth earbuds water, think about the current deal we have running in the DL Deals shop.

You can pick-up the Feather Buds for $24.99. They have a “noise canceling outer shell,” are tangle-free, and feature “crystal clear” sound at a range of up to 30 feet. They also have a built-in microphone, so you can take calls at any time.

Again, if you want to see if Bluetooth earbuds are for you, this isn’t a bad option to consider at that price.

Galaxy S5 G900 (T-Mobile LTE, International Unlocked) And Galaxy S4 i9506 (LTE-A) CyanogenMod 11 Nightlies Available Now

nexus2cee_cid_thumb Samsung releases so many phones in so many variants that even professional gadget bloggers get turned around on occasion. But the folks on the CyanogenMod team are doing their best, bless 'em, and today's fruit of their labor is ROM support for an extra variant of the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S4. The most pertinent one for American readers is probably the G900-T, the Galaxy S5 model sold by T-Mobile as their branded version.

Amazon Add #AmazonWishCart To Their Twitter Easy-Buy Service

Amazon-Logo-Fire-TV-AH-9

One of the benefits (and issues) with the internet is how scarily easy it is to buy things these days. Before, back in the time of physical money, before all the shops shut-down and the machines took over. Buying things required you to leave your house, go to a place, talk to a person and carry home the things you purchased. Not anymore, now you no longer need physical money, you don’t need to go anywhere or talk to anyone, you do not need to be even wearing clothes anymore. You can simply hunch over your computer screen, absorbed in its dim light, click a few buttons and wait for the amazon drones to deliver.

In spite of how easy buying stuff is today it seems companies are still not happy. They seem to be constantly trying to make it even easier and quicker and apparently this ‘need to be easier’, is for the user. Amazon is a prime example of this. A few months back they introduced their new # service. Not heard of it? Well, before if you saw something on twitter that you wanted you had to go through the arduous following steps. Firstly, you had to open another tab, then you had to head over to Amazon. If this was not enough you also had to type in the name of the product, add it to your basket, click ‘checkout’ and finally pay for it. But thankfully those days are over. Now when you are on twitter and see a product mentioned that you want you can simple reply with #AmazonCart and the product will instantly be in your Amazon cart.

To help you even more it seems today Amazon have added a new # command to the list. As well as #AmazonCart if you see a product on twitter you can simply reply with #AmazonWishList and the product will be added to your Amazon Wish List. So now you can add an endless number of products you see on twitter to your Amazon account, ready to be purchased when your stockpile of Bitcoins (or whichever non-physical monies you are using) is enough. If like me, you were tired of the hassle of buying things by actually typing the names of products into amazon then you should give this a try. However, a couple of points to remember. You do need to link your Amazon and Twitter accounts, but more worrying do remember any products you reply to with a #AmazonCart or #AmazonWishList are seen publically. This will appear as a reply, on your timeline and to all who follow you. So save the strange and unsavoury Amazon purchases for the old method…or better still the relic method of visiting a shop. That is if you can still find one.
