Date From Your Wrist: Tinder Gets Updated With Android Wear Support

tinder android wear ah

Where do I even start with Tinder? If you’re looking to hook up with a guy or girl in your area, this is the app you need. You sign in and post your photo, and if someone thinks you’re attractive, they mark you as such. If the sentiment is returned, the app creates a connection between you both. Then you can start chatting with the person and even set up a meeting, date, or a scandalous rendezvous. Now you can do all of that from your wrist on an Android Wear device because the Tinder for Android app just got an update to support Google’s new wearable platform.

You don’t even have to pull out your phone to find a date for the evening. Just update the Tinder app, and the Wear extension is pushed right on over to you wearable device. Voice commands are built right in. All you have to do is lift your wrist and say “Ok Google, start Tinder” and the app will start up and you can start browsing. The UI is a little more basic than what you see on your phone. That’s to be expected with any Android Wear app. The basic Tinder interface on your watch will show you photos of would-be dates, small bits of info from their Tinder profile, you’ll receive notifications of new matches on your wrist, too.

It hasn’t taken long for a whole slew of apps to get updated with Android Wear support. Not just Google apps, either, but apps like Lyft and Runtastic, IFTTT, Golfshot: Golf GPS, Eat24, the PlayerFM podcasting app, Delta and America Airlines, and more. You can find them all in this Android Wear section of the Play Store. Now we can add Tinder to that list. Go forth and party! Or find the love of your life, if that’s your goal. Tinder’s more of a party app though, let’s be honest. Grab the update from the Play Store source link below.

HTC One M8′s Dot View app gets a huge update, introduces custom wallpapers and more

HTC Dot View app update

HTC’s Dot View case is arguably the best thing to happen to device protection in a very long time. Not because the Dot View case offers the best protection, or even uses premium materials — it’s because it’s damn cool to look at. Straight up.

Today, HTC’s Dot View app is getting an update on Google Play and it looks to finally add many features/requests lacking in the previous build. Namely, there’s an actual interface giving users the ability to choose from various hand picked wallpapers tailored to the Dot View’s 8-bit like Creative Matrix Display. Should you have a wallpaper of your own you’d like to try out, you can even select one of your vary own, just keep in mind it might not look as cool.

Aside from customization options, the app is getting some new functionality as well. HTC added the ability to redial the 3 most recent calls, and new notifications can be found, viewable by swiping left or right with the Dot View case closed.

One of the smarter moves HTC made lately was unbundling a few of their system apps and making them updatable through the Google Play Store. Typically, users have to wait for manufacturers to push out an entire system update before getting nifty little features like camera tweaks or what have you. A trend started by Motorola with the Moto X, we have to say we like this method a lot better.

You can grab the Dot View update right now in the Play Store, or if this has finally convinced any of you to pick up the Dot View case, they can be found on Amazon for around $27 here .

Android Game Of The Week: Fightback

Fightback

Beat em’ Up or Brawler type games have been around for quite some time, and while this isn’t your traditional sidescrolling brawler like Final Fight or even better yet, Double Dragon, Fightback gives the sidescrolling brawler genre of games a nice fresh new look and feel that should delight any gamer who enjoys awesome graphics, sweet, sweet, combat moves, upgrades, weapons and other available items, and just general badassery. Fightback has over 100 levels of floor to floor combat, where you’ll take the fight to your enemies with a varied arsenal of weapons and hand to hand combat abilities like sweep kicks, spin kicks mid air, fist fighting, shin kicks, a sort of awesome flying knee attack that looks like it really hurts like hell and much more.

In Fightback you play as a former soldier who has had his sister kidnapped by a yet unknown enemy who you only know by the name of Drago. He is the game’s main protagonist and there seems to be some history between you and him, but you won’t find that out till later in the game i’m assuming. You’ll have to fight tooth and nail through tons of thugs of various types, who also have weapons of their own like bats and giant cleavers just to get your sister back. Can you do it in time before it’s too late?

Fightback uses gesture type controls for you to manipulate the character and perform combat moves, buttons appear on screen once you have acquired weapons that allow you to use them if you’re in a pinch, which is what I recommend. You don’t want to waste your limited ammo on easy fights. You can however replenish your ammo using in game currency, which is also what you use to buy just about everything else from bullet proof vests, to other guns. You also use the in game currency(which you acquire from beating levels)to upgrade your characters attack and defense power, which you will most certainly need as you encounter harder and harder levels. You can string together punches and kicks for devastating combo attacks, and the gesture controls actually make this quite easy to do. Swiping your finger in a circular motion for example tends to either make you perform a lifting knee attack to force an enemy into the air or perform a spin kick. The visuals are pretty and 3D so there’s lots of eye candy here, and two modes of play; Story and Endless. You can play endless to rack up cash by fighting waves of enemies and then play through story mode to follow the “campaign” if you will. There are IAP but they’re not too in-your-face about it so you can simply ignore them. Fightback is free, and a great little brawler worth checking out.

Nova Launcher brings its Android L fixins out of beta, now available for all on Google Play

Nova Launcher Update screenshots

During this year’s Google I/O, the Android team threw everyone for a loop with the release of the Android L Developer Preview. Meant to help developers get up and running with the next version of Android and its all new Material Design, the preview wasn’t exactly meant to be used as a daily driver.

Still, there were many that had already found themselves smitten with its minimalist good looks and even though there weren’t too many changes in the launcher (at least not in the preview), there were small enough changes made that developer TeslaCoil saw it as the perfect time to update his app.

In an update that rolled out to the Nova Launcher Beta a few weeks ago, TeslaCoil introduced a few new key UI elements brought over from the L preview. Guess everything checked out, as these new Android L tweaks are now officially available in the stable version on Google Play. Users can look forward to vertical “L” folder previews, an “L” app drawer icon, “L” app transitions, as well as the usual optimizations and bug fixes. Even a whiter Google Search widget made the cut, not available in the Developer Preview, but shown off onstage during Google I/O.

Once downloaded, you can further complete the Android L look by downloading a Moonshine icon pack or system-wide themes for ROMs like Cyanogen. You can grab the latest update to Nova Launcher by following the Google Play link below.

New Bill Proposes To Remove Physical FCC Stamp And Begin Using Digital Ones

FCC Stamp

We’ve all seen them, and we all think the same thing. They’re pointless. At least to us. We’re talking about the stamp of approval so to speak from the FCC and other groups like the European Union, that is etched onto the back of literally every electronic device we come in contact with on a daily basis. They’re on the back of every smartphone and tablet currently but that could soon change, at least for the FCC, as a new bill was introduced today that seeks to remove these stamps from the backs of devices and instead replace them with a digital stamp. Short of removing the unsightly symbols from the backs of all our electronics, it also makes for less things to check off the list of completed tasks for OEMs when manufacturing these devices. We’d say that’s a small win/win situation.

The bill although only introduced at the moment could have a possibility of getting passed, which would see it turn into a law that requires the digital stamp as opposed to the physical etching we’re used to at the moment. Deb Fischer and Jay Rockefeller are the two U.S. senators who have proposed the bill to congress, known as the E-Label Act. Should this bill pass saving time is not the only factor for OEMs as it will also be less expensive to stamp the approval digitally rather than physically, and we all know how OEMs aren’t opposed to saving money.

Not only would these measures be more cost effective for the manufactures who make these products, but it could end up more cost effective for the consumers as well and also serves as a more environmentally friendly practice compared to the current alternative. The bill seems to have support from members of congress on both sides although it’s uncertain which way either side will lean in the end. Commissioners from both sides view this as an opportunity to foster more devices and new and untapped technologies that are “designed with innovation in mind.” This isn’t the biggest change to happen in the face of electronics if the bill gets accepted and approved, but it will be nice to see those stamps as a thing of the past.

Dot View Cases Now Support Themes And Redial In Latest Update For The App

HTC-One-M8-HTC-Dot-View-Case-AH (01)

If you’re using the HTC One M8 and you’ve been a fan of the Dot View Case that they came out with similar to Samsung’s Flipview Covers, the paired app that works with the case just got a brand new update that adds in some pretty cool stuff. Themes! yes, the DotView case now has the ability to display themes which is a little bit weird but at the same time equal parts cool. The really cool graphic of the Dot View case is almost like a light bright so we imagine that you might actually be able to create some pretty cool themes with this style as it is also kind of nintendo-esque.

The best part about this feature of the new update is that you have the ability to get themes from two places. HTC has 18 themes already made up for you which are part of the app itself. You can also make your own theme by using images from your gallery, so needless to say that opens up a whole lot of possibilities. Who will be the first to make either a Super Mario or Zelda theme for their Dot View? Dot View themed wallpapers are pretty cool but only if they look as cool as they sound. You can use any image you like for the theme but not all images will turn out with a desirable look.

Themes are easily the biggest part of this update for the app but they aren’t the only thing. Dot View users now also have the ability to swipe left and right for more notifications which seems like something people have been asking for. The app also now lets you redial a number from the three most recent calls feature of the Dot View case, so no more having to open the flap just to complete that function like before. We’re still waiting for the first Dot View game to pop up but this is a great little addition to what was already a really cool accessory from HTC. Is anyone out there using the Dot View case and loving it?
