If you own a OnePlus One then the last few weeks have been an intense few. OnePlus announced a few weeks back that they would be finally making available an Android 5.0 Lollipop based OS for the OnePlus One in the form of OxygenOS. This is a homegrown OS, built by the team and seeing the first major step in the company’s foray into an independent OS for their device. The release date was scheduled for March 27th. However, as that date neared, the OnePlus team hinted that it was unlikely that OxygenOS would launch on its scheduled March 27th date.
The reason given for the delay was that they had yet to receive certification for Oxygen from Google. As such, the waiting game began for owners of the One. OnePlus did immediately understand that this would be an issue of frustration for OnePlus One owners and as such announced they would release daily updates. Well, just over a week after the initially scheduled roll-out date and it looks like OxygenOS has finally arrived,
OnePlus announced this morning on their blog that OxygenOS is now available, certified and released. For those that missed the earlier reports, this is not an OTA (over-the-air) update and does require manual installation of the update to your device, aka flashing. Although this is an official and final build, it is worth noting that there are a number of ‘known issues’ being listed. these include “When printing images, printer service may stop, Cannot hang up a call using headphone controls (intermittent), OTG can only recognize FAT32 file system, During system update, display of wifi/data notification may be incorrect, During system update, display of version number may be incorrect, Files sometimes crash when uploading files to the cloud, Files may crash when renaming image files and Files does not support multi-select deletes.”
OnePlus have also released an app which can be installed and used to provide feedback to the team on your experience with Oxygen. As such, if you have been waiting to bring your One up to Android Lollipop and via the OnePlus homegrown version, then now is your chance.
