Fatal Fury Special
You can’t have a retro list without talking about an old school fighting game, and there’s no better title to fill this spot than Fatal Fury Special, one of the most popular fighting games from SNK Play More. It has 16 characters in the roster and all the graphics and gameplay as you remember them.
Final Fantasy Record Keeper
Final Fantasy Record is by no means an old game, in fact it’s quite new so by those standards it isn’t retro, but it features all the retro graphics from past Final Fantasy titles as well as all the most memorable battles from the original games in the series. Even the soundtrack is old school. With Final Fantasy Record Keeper you can take a trip down memory lane and replay all the best moments and big time fights.
Fist Of Awesome
Inspired by old school retro brawler games like Final Fight and Double Dragon, Fist of Awesome takes you through time as a brave lumberjack named Tim Burr to punch bears in the mouth and save the earth.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2
If you grew up in the era of classic retro video games you played Sonic The Hedgehog 2. This platformer paved the way for many titles that would come after it. A fantastic port of an old SEGA classic with iconic characters like Sonic, and Tails. Speed through levels and grab gold rings, and show Dr. Eggman who’s boss.
Dragon Quest V
Dragon Quest V is one of the more memorable old school RPG games in the Dragon Quest franchise, and for good reason. It features an wonderful RPG story of epic proportions to follow, with AI battles so you don’t have to command your team of characters, and 360 degree views so you can see the environment from angles and catch every detail, hidden chest and secret.
Radiant HD
Radiant HD is a great little throwback to games like Galaga and Space invaders. There is over 100 levels of space flying mayhem where you have face off against giant monsters and epic bosses. It wouldn’t be a retro arcade game without powerups or weapon upgrades, and should you find things to easy the first time around you can switch things up to the harder difficulty modes.
Another World
Another World is a classic arcade adventure game that truly has to be played to understand its greatness. It has three different difficulty levels, where even the easiest (normal mode) is quite the challenge. You can even switch back and forth between the old school original graphics and the updated HD graphics to experience the game in a new light with a simple double finger swipe down the screen. If you like adventure titles, this shouldn’t be missed.
Evoland
Evoland is a great little RPG that takes you through the evolution of retro RPGs with graphics and battle systems that change to match the RPG of the time. It features a cool little story and has loads of dungeons and puzzles to solve, plus tons of enemies to hack to bits and face off against in battle.
R-Type
This is a retro games list, and we had to throw an old school shooter in for good measure. Plus, R-Type was one of the best ones around. This is a full blown port of a classic game with multiple difficulty levels to keep you entertained for hours.
Secret of Mana
Secret of Mana is easily one of the best RPG games of all time, and as such it certainly deserved to be on this list. Unlike any other RPG from its time, it features a real-time battle system and delivers hours upon hours of enjoyment. If you’re an RPG fan, this needs to be on your list of games to play.
