Best Buy Website Appears To Leak HTC One M9 Price At $649.99

HTC’s new One announcement is now only a few hours away but North American website, Best Buy, have the device up for pre-order already with a price of $649.99. It doesn’t give a shipping date but says, “coming soon.” Best Buy’s website also details some of the specification but some of the details may have been transposed as they do not agree with the other rumored specification that we have seen for the One M9.

First, the price: $650 is broadly in line with the flagship smartphone competition. It would have been nice to see HTC selling the device for less, but hoping for Nexus 5 pricing is something of a pipe dream! And second, the specification. Best Buy’s website shows that the HTC One M9 will come with a 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage plus a MicroSD card. It’ll also have a 5.0-inch, 1080p resolution display. However, the website details a 20 MP front facing camera, not the rear facing unit that we have been seeing rumored. The 4 MP UltraPixel camera still graces the back of the new One M9. This may be an error on Best Buy’s part or it might be an error for every other leak we’ve seen around the Internet (started when somebody mistook the specification as showing a 20 MP rear camera). We don’t know for a few hours, but the idea of a 4 MP UltraPixel front facing camera does seem somewhat unusual but then so too does a 20 MP front facing camera! The HTC One M9 is showing as running Android 5.0 Lollipop as standard.

Best Buy’s website does not disclose the battery capacity but shows battery life, in standby, as twenty days, or 480 hours. This is in line with other manufacturers’ smartphone standby claims, but this is for a device under optimum conditions left in idle. Presumably this means with no email account, social networking applications or other services enabled on the device: it does not seem realistic to expect the new HTC One M9 to achieve almost three weeks of standby and few users will buy the M9 to then not use it!
