Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Might Launch On January 15 Instead Of The Mi5

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, announced a while back that the company will launch their new flagship handset on January 15. At the same time, this China-based company has been teasing an extremely thin handset through the social media sites. We’ve been received a ton of Xiaomi Mi4S / Mi5 rumors and leaks, and it seemed logical to assume that the company plans to launch either of these two devices, because this is the line of devices you think of when someone mentions the word “flagship” in the Xiaomi phone context. Well, Xiaomi released yet another teaser and confused us all.

The company released a new teaser, in the form of a puzzle. If you’re good at puzzles, you’re going to be able to figure out this one, if not, read on. Okay, so, the puzzle spells out “our new flagship is the redmi note, thinner, larger, lighter, faster, hifi-sound and all glass laminate.” Disappointed? Well, you’re not the only one. When someone mentions the word “flagship”, you immediately think of the most powerful phone in that company’s lineup, in this came, the Xiaomi Mi line of devices. Lei Jun’s words were extremely misleading because it seems that they intend to release the Redmi Note’s successor on January 15th, not the Mi4’s successor. Redmi Note 2 would be a great, affordable device, but in no way, shape or form is it a flagship handset. There’s still hope though, Xiaomi also released a second teaser, which you can see below the article (second image). It shows a pair of hands in the classic smartphone grip position, which might be Xiaomi’s way of telling us they’ll release two handsets on January 15. This is even more confusing, first they mention the Redmi Note 2 in the context of a flagship, and now… anyhow, we’ll find out soon.

The Redmi Note 2 got listed on Oppomart recently as well, along with its full specs. According to that listing, this handset will feature a 5.7-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of in-built storage (depending on the version). Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoC, a 64-bit octa-core chip will power on this thing along with an Adreno 405 GPU which will be in charge of graphics rendering. The 13-megapixel camera will be located at the back of this handset, and a 5-megapixel sensor will be available up front. 3,600mAh battery and Android 4.4 KitKat were also listed, and Xiaomi’s MIUI 6 skin will be located on top of Android, of course. This will be a dual-SIM handset and it will measure 141.89 x 71.4 x 6.1mm according to the listing.

Do you think Xiaomi will release both the Redmi Note 2 and the Mi4S / Mi5 handset on January 15, or will we see only the Redmi Note 2 launched there? Considering that the company mentioned the Redmi Note 2 in a context of a flagship, I’m a bit skeptical when it comes to the Mi4S / Mi5 launch, but I do hope Xiaomi will launch that handset on January 15, we’ll see.
