After a ton of Xiaomi rumors over the last couple of days, we started to wonder where is Meizu. Well, the company was rather quiet lately, but some new information popped up in China which are worth sharing. Last year, Meizu promised that they’ll launch 4 handsets in 2014, the year is over and they launched only 3. Well, it is quite possible, even probable, that they meant until the end of Chinese year, which is at the end of January, so there’s still time. After the Meizu M1 Note launched, Meizu’s founder and CEO, Jack Wong, said that a smaller Meizu handset will launch in January. He basically confirmed that we’ll see a smaller version of the M1 Note handset which was rumored for a long time.
The image shown below this article is actually a teaser which showed up on Weibo (Chinese social network). If you take a closer look at the image, you’ll see two numbers in it, 2 and 7. Everyone thinks this teaser suggest that the device will launch on January 27, which makes sense I guess. Keep in mind that this teaser appeared on Ubuntu China Weibo page, so this could mean we’ll finally see the Ubuntu Touch-powered Meizu handset which was rumored to launch this month. Meizu and Canonical signed an agreement a while back and this handset was announced, but we weren’t given any specific information about the handset nor its launch date. This handset, which will allegedly launch this month, could end up being the smaller version of the M1 Note or the Ubuntu Touch-powered handset. The latest rumors are saying that this handset will be called the M1 Mini (running Flyme), feature a 5-inch display and that it will be powered by MediaTek’s 64-bit chip, while it will also sport a unibody design according to the rumors.
This actually sounds really interesting. What are your thoughts here? What do you think Meizu will launch at the end of this month, the Flyme-powered handset or the first Ubuntu Touch-powered Meizu smartphone? Let us know what you think, we’d love to hear from you, as usual.
