LG G Flex 2 To Launch In Korea On January 30; LG Denies Snapdragon 810 Has Overheating Issues

AH LG G Flex 2-6

LG G Flex was one of the most interesting handsets of 2013. LG launched this thing at the end of 2013 and managed to surprise a lot of people. That handset didn’t exactly bring the latest specs on the inside, LG wanted to see how will people react to it before packing in some more appealing specs. The reactions were rather positive, this Korea-based company managed to intrigue people with this curved phone and its self-healing back. This resulted in the follow-up, the company introduced the G Flex 2 this month during CES in Las Vegas and that phone was regarded as one of the best devices at the show.

Anyhow, LG is getting ready to launch this phone in its home market, Korea. They have confirmed that the G Flex 2 will launch in Korea on January 30 and will cost 800,000 won, which is about $738. A steep price indeed, but this is a high-end device and its packs in beastly specs, including the Snapdragon 810 processor by Qualcomm. LG didn’t share any specific information regarding the international launch, but the company did say that the phone will launch after the Korea launch, which sounds like the international launch will come soon after that, perhaps first half of February.

LG’s Vice president of mobile product planning, Woo Ram-chan, also dismissed any concerns regarding the overheating issues of the Snapdragon 810 processor. He said “I am very much aware of the various concerns in the market about the (Snapdragon) 810, but the chip’s performance is quite satisfactory. I don’t understand why there is an issue over heat”. You might recall the report about Samsung ditching the Snapdragon 810 in favor of the Exynos chip due to Snapdragon 810’s overheating issues. We’ll just have to see until the phone is out to see if there’s any reason for concern or not, LG thinks the processor is just fine, and Samsung didn’t say anything officially, so who knows.

LG G Flex 2 features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) curved plastic OLED display along with 2GB of DDR4 RAM and 16 or 32GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card). This thing is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC, a 64-bit octa-core processor clocked at 2GHz. 13-megapixel OIS+ camera is located on the back of the device and flanked by a dual-LED flash and Laser Auto Focus. 2.1-megapixel snapper is available up front and this handset ships with a 3,000mAh battery. 4G LTE-A connectivity is available here and the device will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop pre-installed with LG’s UI on top of it.
