Pandora has announced the release of a beta version of a new interface for their mobile app on iOS and Android devices. The interface is called Station Personalization and according to Pandora, it is designed to “provide effortless music discovery and listening” for their 75 million listeners. According to Pandora, the interface focuses on three areas – new transition and animations, improved personalization and station details, and improvements to the “thumbs” system.
Pandora’s new interface includes several new “subtle” changes like the inclusion of the station and station name on the Now Playing screen from the station list. This change not only makes it easier for users, it will help stations build a presence and according to Pandora users will get a better sense of place.
One change users should easily notice is a Personalization Icon that appears in the top right corner of the Now Playing screen. Using this icon, users can get in depth information about the station. Users will also be able to access station history and information about thumbs up and thumbs down ratings they have made on that station. Users will also be able to rename a station, improve variety, and trace the history of how artists and songs ended up on the station.
Finally, Pandora has made some improvements to the “thumbs” features of the app, which they say is integral to personalization of Pandora. Besides seeing the station history and thumbs history, users can quickly change a thumbs down to thumbs up or vice versa. Users will also be able to tap on a song or artist name, or swipe up, to reveal more details.
