While the Nexus devices have already gotten their updates to Android 5.0 Lollipop, along with some non-nexus devices, we’re still waiting for many smartphones that have been released in the second half of this year to get their updates to the next version of Android. LG, Motorola, HTC, Sony, and Samsung have all set a number of their current and last year model devices as scheduled to get the update, but it could still be a little while before we see Android 5.0 Lollipop come to something like the Samsung Galaxy S4, that is unless you’re running the Galaxy S4 GPe(Google Play Edition)model which is apparently getting the OTA software as of now.
The update like all updates should be rolling out in stages, so if you haven’t seen the OTA notification pop up on your status bar you can always go into settings, about phone, and check for the update to lollipop manually. There is also the possibility that it won’t show up even then, in which case it could be a day or a few before you receive it. With Android 5.0 coming to the GPe model Galaxy S4, it will be bringing along all the goodness of Lollipop we have been acquainted with since its release, like screen pinning, guest mode, and of course the loveliness and bold vibrancy that is Material Design.
The Galaxy S4 GPe model joins other GPe devices that have already gotten the update to Android 5.0 like the HTC One M8 and the HTC One M7 GPe devices, which received their updates over the air to the latest version of Android back on December 4th. The update comes in at a hefty little size, around 500MB, so we recommend to have about 50% battery life so you can be sure it’ll stay powered on during the update process, or just simply plug in your phone and you should be fine. It would also be a good idea to download this update via WiFi so you aren’t eating through your carrier’s monthly data cap, and chances are that WiFi would be faster than your carrier’s data anyhow.
