November 3rd May Bring Android Wear Version 2.0 To Existing Devices

Android Wear may not be completely new but it is still a fledgling smartwatch OS. That begs the question of when exactly we might be able to see the next version of it hit our watches, bringing our Samsung Gear Live’s, our LG G Watches, and our Moto 360’s forward to Android Wear version 2.0. There has been some speculation on this already, and even at least one update that people were hoping to be 2.0 only to be slightly let down. According to Artem Russakovskii of Android Police who has a source that is seemingly familiar with situation and was also 1005 correct with yesterday’s Nexus announcements, the belief is that we might see Google drop Android Wear 2.0 by or sometime around November 3rd to possibly match up with the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

This isn’t confirmed of course, but Android Police is often spot on with things like this so we shouldn’t dismiss it. Some of you may already be thinking, “what will Android Wear 2.0 bring to the table?” and that’s a valid question. At this point we have no idea what is in store for us when the update hits, but we can talk about what we’d like to see. So far everyone has a different opinion of Android Wear in its current form. Some will love it, some will hate it, and some will be slightly neutral and simply content. Android Wear is great as it is, that doesn’t mean it can’t stand to use a few more things.

If the date pans out to be true, and we hope that it is, we can probably expect to see some influences of Lollipop and more Material Design, or it at least makes sense that we would. What I’d personally hope to see as a new feature would be the ability to initiate sending a Hangouts message to anyone in the list of Hangouts contacts, instead of sending the message as an SMS.
