You have probably already heard of the infamous Motorola Shamu device, a name which has been thrown back and forth lately. This codename can mean one of the two things, either we’re talking about the upcoming Nexus or an Android Silver device. I’d bet this is a Nexus device though, considering Google codenamed all their previous Nexus device after small fish, like Shamu. Besides, we haven’t heard anything about Android Silver for a while now. No matter which one of the two you consider “Shamu” is connected to, we have some new developments when it comes to this.
Shamu’s import data surfaced on Zauba. This is the website which details import and export information for India. Now, if you look at the first entry there, dated back to August 20th, you’ll notice 2 Motorola Shamu devices were imported into India. The listing says they were imported for “demo purposes” and the model number of the device is Motorola XT1112. According to the listing, each of these devices is valued at 34,982 Rupees, which is approximately $578.
Okay, so this listing doesn’t exactly reveal much, but it is yet another piece of the puzzle which kind of proves this device exists. As I said, I believe this is a Nexus device, not an Android Silver device. The first batch of rumors claimed this device will sport a 5.9-inch screen and then later on we got a hold of some info claiming the screen will be 5.2-inches. The “Google Shamu” device popped up on Antutu benchmark on August 13th. According to that info, the device will sport a 5.2-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, 3GB of RAM and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 processor while Adreno 420 GPU will take care of the graphics. A 13-megapixel camera is said to be device’s main shooter with a 2.1-megapixel snapper being located on the front of the device. That info also claims that the device will launch with Android “L” operating system pre-installed, which makes all the sense in the world considering Google will showcase it as the version of Android in Q4 this year.
