We had heard a few months ago that this would happen, and well it’s finally happening. Facebook is completely removing messaging from it’s main app and pushing everyone to download and use their messaging app. Which I’ve actually been using for quite a while as it means I can still talk to my friends that won’t leave Facebook, but not have the actual Facebook app installed, which likes to chew on battery. Facebook began requiring users in Europe to use the Messaging app instead of through the Facebook app back in April, as a sort of beta test. And from what Facebook says, the results were great. So now they are forcing it on users worldwide.
“In the next few days, we’re continuing to notify more people that if they want to send and receive Facebook messages, they’ll need to download the Messenger app. As we’ve said, our goal is to focus development efforts on making Messenger the best mobile messaging experience possible and avoid the confusion of having separate Facebook mobile messaging experiences. Messenger is used by more than 200 million people every month, and we’ll keep working to make it an even more engaging way to connect with people.”
Messenger has received a few updates lately that have made the app really nice looking and performance has greatly been enhanced recently. It’s actually a good experience, and their design is much better than Whatsapp – which coincidentally, Facebook bought earlier this year. So if you haven’t already given Facebook Messenger a go, now’s the time too. Well forcefully. Facebook says that more people send messages, pictures, videos, etc., through messenger than the actual Facebook app. So there’s obviously plenty of people using it, and loving the experience with the Messenger app. How many of you already using the Facebook Messenger app? Let us know in the comments below.
