T-Mobile Versions Of The Galaxy S6 And Galaxy S6 Edge Get Their First OTA Update

s6 We're getting a few reports that some T-Mobile customers who preordered the Galaxy S6 and its edgier brother are already receiving their phones. When they turn them on, they might just be greeted by an over-the-air update right away. The new builds are actually dated March 22nd, so it's probable that every S6 and S6 Edge in T-Mobile's initial batch will need this update. Pebble Time concludes Kickstarter campaign, pledges exceed $20 million

pebble_time_finished_kickstarter

Late in February, the successor to the very popular Pebble smartwatch was announced. Just as the original, the Pebble Time found its home launching through a Kickstarter campaign. Consumers could make pledges and receive units of their own for less than the future retail price. We knew that the Pebble Time would be successful on Kickstarter. After all, the original Pebble was backed by nearly 70,000 people. The Pebble Time surpassed that mark with 78,471 backers and a pledge total reached $20,338,986. This means that the Pebble Time holds the title as the most funded project in Kickstarter’s history.

Backers will start receiving Pebble Time units in May.

Android Headliner: Should the HTC One M9 be Your Next Smartphone?

HTC One M9 Hands On AH 12

The HTC One M9 is a great smartphone, but so was the One M8. If you own a HTC One M8 is it worth upgrading to the One M9? Probably not, but if you have the One M7, it’s probably a huge upgrade for you. When the HTC One M9 was announced earlier this month, HTC was met with a lot of skepticism. After all, it’s pretty much the same smartphone, but with a few subtle changes. Can the HTC One M9 be successful in a world where Samsung makes beautiful looking smartphones that don’t overheat?

As most of you know, or should know, HTC has been struggling for the past 3-4 years now. With either losing money or barely turning a profit in their quarterly earnings. They’ve slimmed down their offerings to just one flagship a year, but plenty of mid-range and low-end models. Which is a good thing. After all, in 2011, they did put out about 80 different models around the world. The HTC One M7 and M8 were some of my favorite smartphones. But there was always a catch. Which was usually the camera. On the HTC One M8, I had no issues with the UltraPixel camera, I almost always got amazing pictures from it. But not everyone had the same experience.

In the One M9, HTC has opted for a 20MP camera, stating that the Ultrapixel was “not popular among consumers.”Instead of opting for a Sony lens, they went with Toshiba. I say that because we know how Sony’s lens are. As the Xperia Z2, Z3, Droid Turbo and even the Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro have amazing cameras and all use the same hardware for the camera. However, the Toshiba lens that’s on the HTC One M9 isn’t bad at all. I got to use it in Barcelona for a few minutes, and was pretty impressed by it. It may not blow away the Xperia Z3, but it definitely blows away the HTC One M8.

Some of the other changes HTC made here were in the design of the smartphone. They added a bit of a shelf on the side of the device. Which makes it easier to hold onto, and less slippery. Otherwise, it’s pretty much the same smartphone as what HTC put out last year. So should the HTC One M9 be your next smartphone? Tough to say. Especially since everyone has different tastes. The HTC One M9 is a great looking phone, and a great performing phone, but can it compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge? It’s going to be tough for HTC. Samsung has turned a new page, and actually has a beautiful looking smartphone, with top of the line everything. And we’re still waiting on what LG, Motorola, and others are planning for 2015.

Facebook Publishes A Handful Of Android Apps For Its New Messenger Platform

unnamed (3) Facebook's internal instant messenger isn't so internal now: it's a stand-alone app platform that will operate in conjunction with the social network, and developers of every flavor can integrate their apps with Messenger. Naturally the first apps to take advantage of this come from Facebook itself: new apps include Selfied, Shout, Sound Clips, and Strobe, and the older Stickered app has been updated, all with the "for Messenger" label.

They're simple little tools or toys that add a bit of fun to Messenger.

Unboxing The Samsung Level On Headphones

AH Samsung Level On-9

Samsung’s Level On headphones aim to be a premium set of headphones to deliver quality sound for whatever it is you’re doing, whether it’s playing games, watching videos or listening to music. They fit just over the ear with soft, padded cushions on the ears and super-soft cushioned headband to keep them comfortable during longer periods of use, and they fold into themselves to fit nice and snug in the premium carrying case. Samsung sent us over a pair of the white Level On headphones to enjoy with the Gear VR Innovator Edition so the whole experience could be as immersive as possible, but the headphones work with any device you plug them into.

Inside the box you get the premium carrying case, the auxiliary cable with in-line control that allows you to pause/play your content, fast forward to the next track, adjust the volume levels and control various phone functions. The in-line controls and headset are also compatible with S-Voice so if you’re using the Level On with a Samsung device you get voice-activated functionality too. The 3.5pi cable is also detachable so you can pack them up nice and neat.

The headphones feature a dual diaphragm design with 40mm drivers for excellent quality sound and during the minimal use we’ve gotten out of them so far audio comes through clear and crisp with some pretty decent bass. Check out some of the images below and see what you get when you pick up a pair of these.

Unboxing The Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition

AH Samsung Gear VR-8

Samsung’s focus and push into mobile entertainment and gaming became apparent when they first announced the Gear VR virtual reality headset, which aims to bring consumers who have a compatible Samsung Galaxy Note 4 smartphone a slightly more affordable option for virtual reality compared to something like the Oculus Rift. Samsung was kind enough to send us over a kit of the Gear VR Innovator Edition, which comes with everything you need to dive right into the completely immersive experiences that can be enjoyed on the headset, minus the Galaxy Note 4 of course. Inside the box you’ll end up getting the headset unit itself, the face plate that clips on the front, the head brace that fits over the top of the headset to help secure it during use, a micro fiber cloth to wipe down the inside and outside of the lenses so you can keep them clean, an extra foam face liner, and a microSD card to place inside of the Galaxy Note 4 which you can use to hold all your content from the Oculus Store.

The Gear VR Innovator Edition comes with an optical lens that has a 96 degree field of view so you can really see things in a wide aspect, and it almost feels like you’re inside of the content that you’re enjoying. It also contains multiple sensors including an accelerometer, gyrometer, geomagnetic and proximity sensors, and it has a dial for focal adjustment to cover you whether you’re nearsighted or farsighted. A simple tweak of this dial brings things into focus so you can see things as clear as possible every time. The physical user interface is easily accessible with the volume rocker, back button, and touchpad all on the right side of the headset. Now the Gear VR doesn’t contain a battery, so it draws its power from the battery inside of the Galaxy Note 4 once the phone is plugged into it, which connects through the microUSB port on the front mantle of the headset and is mounted in and secured with the face plate. We’ve spent nearly a week with the Gear VR Innovator Edition playing around with some of the videos and games, and we’ll be bringing you a review of the headset tomorrow, but for now have a look at some of the images below and see what all comes in the package.
