HTC sends invites for HTC One M9+ revelation April 8th in Beijing, new images leak
HTC had a big shindig in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago to unveil the HTC One M9, and now the variant we were really hoping to see could be due April 8th. The company is sending invites to Chinese press to show that they have “More Than One” big devices on tap this year, and they’ll be unveiling the latest on in Beijing.
The invitation shows what looks to be similar to the rear of an HTC One M9, except it has the same dual camera setup we’ve seen on previous leaks instead of the lone camera featured on the company’s 2015 flagship — this, folks, is likely the HTC One M9 Plus.
That’s all we can tell from the company’s official teaser, though we know the device will have a couple of key differences up front. The main one is that there will be a physical home button smack dab in the middle of the bottom set of BoomSound speakers and will have dual functionality as a fingerprint scanner. The display is also a tad bigger, though at 5.2 inches (if OnLeaks’ most recent information is to be believed) it’s not the phablet-sized monster we were expecting.
The device is expected to have a Quad-HD resolution at 2560 x 1440, 3GB of RAM and a 20 megapixel camera sensor. It might also have MediaTek’s 64-bit Octa-Core MT6795T.
Oh, and it looks like the mockup made by @OnLeaks was about as accurate as accurate can be — these in-the-wild shots definitely show a device that looks like a slightly bigger HTC One M9 with a fingerprint scanner. We’d also seen evidence of the design in leaked dummy shots of the phone just yesterday.
Its Chinese debut might suggest this device won’t be made available for many other regions to start, though we’ll have to wait for official word from HTC to be clued in on their exact plans.

Motorola Posts the Full Changelog for Android 5.1 on the Moto X 2014
Motorola has started the soak test for the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition that will bring Android 5.1 to the device. The soak test actually started last week. Today, Motorola has published the changelog notes for the update, which means the rollout should begin momentarily. The update isn’t all that different from what you get on the Nexus 6, and that’s because Motorola has stuck with basically a stock Android skin on the Moto X. Just added some extra features to the device, compared to AOSP.
The Changelog can be found on Motorola’s website. It’s quite detailed, which is nice to see, as we normally don’t get detailed changelogs for updates. We’re looking at changes to notifications and priority mode, changes to heads-up notifications, Quick Settings, Camera, Device Protection, Performance and the lock screen. Of course, there’s also a slew of bug fixes. Some of those bug fixes include fixing the clock in the status bar not updating and alarms not going off. Can’t delete SMS messages when the SIM card is full. No ringer audio while making an outgoing call. Calculator floating point calculations, Chrome crashes on launch, and so much more.
It appears that Motorola has really fixed a lot of bugs. Not just ones that were fixed in Android 5.1 but also ones that plagued just the Moto X. Which is definitely nice to see. Now that the changelog is out and available. We should start seeing the OTA rolling out to the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition fairly soon. The carrier versions shouldn’t be far behind either. After all this is a somewhat small update. It’s mostly a bug fixer from Google, but there is also quite a few new features in Android 5.1 that Motorola is bringing over to the Moto X.
As for their other devices, like the Moto G, Moto E and the Droid Turbo. There’s no timeline just yet. Motorola has stated that the Droid Turbo would be making the jump from Android 4.4.4 to Android 5.1, however. But the Moto G and Moto E might be getting their updates further down the road. We’ll have to wait and see.

HTC One E9 leak shows a phone plastered with glossy material
Looks like HTC’s working on a new phone with some stylish good looks. It’s being called the HTC One E9, and it was leaked by a familiar source in @upleaks. Details are slim right now, but we can see that the phone borrows design cues from the best of both the mid-range and high-end tiers of HTC’s device lineup.
The front of the device is more akin to an HTC One M8 / M9, complete with BoomSound speakers and a bezel with an oddly-placed logo. Flipping it to the rear reveals what appears to be a glossy plastic material that’s often used for HTC’s Desire lineup.
An earlier leak suggested the device would come with some pretty capable hardware:
- 5.5-inch QHD display
- 2.2GHz Octa-core MediaTek MT6795 chipset
- 3GB of RAM
- 32GB if internal storage
- 20 megapixel camera
Not bad, though fans of Qualcomm’s might opt to pass. HTC is said to be launching the device in China before month’s end, so we’ll have to wait until then before we’re let in on any other details. Would you buy one if it were made available in your area?

Rumor: HTC Butterfly 3 To Arrive In Red, White And Blue Colors
Upleaks has Tweeted that the next generation HTC Butterfly model, the Butterfly 3, set to be released in three colors for the Japanese market, these being red, white and blue. This mirrors the HTC Butterfly 2, which was announced last August and came in similar red, white and blue colors. We’re expecting the Butterfly 3 to initially be sold by the Japanese KDDI carrier before being sold around the Asia region.
At this juncture, we don’t know any detail of the third generation HTC Butterfly, but based on the differences between the HTC One M8 and the HTC Butterfly 2, it seems reasonable to expect that the HTC Butterfly 3 will be similar to the HTC One M9 but slightly improved across the board. One difference is that the One M8 is built from metal whereas the Butterfly 2 is polycarbonate, plus the Butterfly 2 has water and dust protection. Under the bodywork, however, we may expect the Butterfly 3 to be based around the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, clocked at 2.0 GHz. The Butterfly 2 used a slightly higher performance version of the Snapdragon 801 compared with the One M8, at 2.5 GHz compared with 2.3 GHz (for most regions) and so it’s possible that the Butterfly 3 will use a slightly higher performance version of the Snapdragon 810 compared with the HTC One M9 or perhaps even a newer generation processor. We’d expect both devices to come with 3 GB of memory, likely 32 GB of internal storage plus a MicroSD card slot for additional expansion. Assuming that the Butterfly 3 has a similar screen to the One M9, we’d be looking at a 5.0-inch, 1080p display. Finally, we’ve seen a small difference in battery capacity between the One M8 and the Butterfly 2, with 2,600 mAh and 2,700 mAh respectively – we may also see a small increase in battery capacity for the Butterfly 3 model.
One difference between the One and Butterfly models is the camera. The 2014 HTC One M8 had a 4MP Ultrapixel rear camera with a duo depth perception sensor. The 2014 Butterfly 2 came with dual 13MP cameras. For 2015, the HTC One M9 comes with a single 21MP rear camera… we will have to wait and see what the Butterfly 3 comes with. And that likely means waiting until August.
