New image may be first look at the Samsung Galaxy S 6 design

samsung_galaxy_s_6_original_design_leak

A new image that leaked out via Twitter purports to show the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S 6. Samsung’s next flagship could be revealed in about a month at MWC 2015. When it is finally revealed one thing everyone will be looking at will be changes in the design of the device. This latest leaked image gives us an early chance to do that. In looking at the image, one may see the edges have a curved quality to them similar to the iPhone 6.

Other small details include changes to the home button which is a little bit taller sitting relative to the front and is a little more circular that the current home button. It appears the headphone jack and microUSB ports are now located at the bottom of the device. Meanwhile, the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and front-facing camera have been shifted to the left of the earpiece instead of to the right. The image also appears to suggest the volume buttons are now separate buttons instead of being a single rocker button.

As we move closer to the launch date, we will see how many of these changes make it to the final consumer version.

PhoneSoap promises to zap the bugs on the surface of your smartphone

phonesoap_white_inside

Usually when we write about bugs and smartphones we are referring to the code that keeps everything working like it should. Based on a new product hitting the market, there are some other bugs that we should be worried about – the germs covering the outside of our devices. According to the creators of the new PhoneSoap cleaning solution, the smartphones are eighteen times dirtier than public restrooms and a stunning one in six has some fecal matter on it somewhere. The PhoneSoap charging case uses UV light to sanitize handsets, killing 99.9% of the germs that are present.

The creators of PhoneSoap recently appeared on the TV show Shark Tank when QVC’s Lori Greiner agreed to provide $300,000 in funding for a 10% stake in the company. This comes on the heels of a Kickstarter project to get the project moving and PhoneSoap was even present at CES 2015.

PhoneSoap solutions are currently for sale online and at some Staples locations. The primary charging case sells for $59.99, but numerous accessories are offered. These include a microfiber cleaning pad, some polish for wiping a device down, and even a GermGuard case. If ordered online, PhoneSoap is currently offering a special 15% discount to celebrate their success on Shark Tank.

Top 10 Android News Stories This Past Week: Feb 1st – 2015 Edition

oxygen

Some big things happened this week in the world of Android and tech, but we realize that some people may have missed part of it. That’s why starting with today and following through with every Sunday, we’re going to recap on the top 10 biggest stories of the week for anyone that either missed the news or simply wants to do a recap themselves. To kick things off, we’ll start with the news about Google’s Project Tango making the jump from ATAP(Advanced Technology and Projects Group)to their own division. This means that Google is finally ready to start moving to the next level with their Project Tango devices. There were no details about what this entails, but we can imagine Google has big plans for it. Somewhat more unfortunate is that HTC had officially reported they’ll be missing their 90 day window for the Lollipop update on One M7 and One M8 devices. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer for device owners to get their software upgrade, but we’d rather HTC take their time and get things to run as smooth as possible before they push the update out to users.

Although HTC may not be making their date on the Lollipop software roll out, a recent rumor this week suggests that HTC’s next flagship, the M9 as it’s being referred to currently, may come with an improved speaker design that does away with the black bar on the bottom bezel seen on the HTC One M7 and One M8, which was a common complaint from device enthusiasts and users. Other big news this week centers around the Nexus Player coming to Amazon, as well as the Nexus 7 LTE models from both 2012 and 2013 finally getting the factory images for Lollipop 5.0.2, it’s been a long time coming. Perhaps the biggest news this week though, is that OnePlus unveiled two new operating systems for their devices, with Hydrogen OS meant to be for non-international phones and the Oxygen OS, meant to be distributed for international models. You can find links to all the biggest stories we covered this week below so in case you wanted to read a little more details on any of them we have them listed.

Android How To: Set Up Remote Play on your Sony Xperia Smartphone or Tablet

Sony-Remote-Play-AH-03463

One of the cool things about owning the PlayStation 4 and a Sony smartphone or tablet is the fact that you can play your PS4 from your phone or tablet without using the TV. And you can actually do it away from home as well. Although it’s not a good idea to do it on mobile data if you don’t have unlimited data. It’s quite easy to get Remote Play setup on your Xperia Z3, or Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. In this how to we’ll be using the Xperia Z3, but it should work the same on just about any recent Sony Xperia smartphone or tablet.

  1. First you’ll need to download the Remote Play app from the Play Store.

  2. You’ll need your DualShock 4 controller as well.

  3. Now open the app

  4. Next go into Settings > View Controller Guide > Register

    2015-02-01 17.25.12

  5. It’ll tell you to push the PS button and the Share button together until you get the blinking white light. The controller needs to be off first, or else it won’t work.

    2015-02-01 17.25.16

  6. It should connect without any issues.

  7. Now it’s time to pair your smartphone with your PS4. To do this you’ll need to first make sure they are both on the same WiFi network.

    2015-02-01 17.25.49

  8. Your smartphone should find the PS4 automatically, but if for some reason it doesn’t, you can use the PIN number.

  9. That’s about it, actually.

Now you are free to play your PlayStation 4 on your Xperia Z3 (or other Sony mobile device). It’s actually really awesome. But I’d only recommend it if you have a fast internet connection. I have a 125mbps down and 24mbps up (Comcast) connection and I saw a bit of lag, but it was still playable. Although I could probably eliminate it if I turned down the quality to normal instead of having it on High.

So that’s how you set up Remote Play on your Xperia Z3, or any other Sony Mobile device. Hit up the comment below and let us know what games you’re playing right now.
