Samsung Celebrates The Release And Anticipation Of The Samsung Galaxy S6 And S6 Edge In New Video

Screenshot 2015-04-10 at 11.24.25 AM

If you have been tuning into the tech news at all today, then you will be well aware that two of the most anticipated Samsung devices ever, have now gone on general sale. Although, they will need little introduction, they are the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. Since their unveiling at last month’s MWC event in Barcelona, the two devices have been greatly in demand. In fact, some would argue that they have reinvigorated the Samsung Galaxy brand after what was considered a disappointing evolution when the Samsung Galaxy S5. Not to mention, reports came in suggesting as many as twenty million pre-orders had been made prior to the official release.

The anticipation and excitement around the two devices is not that surprising though. As they both do come with some high-end specs. Not forgetting, their exteriors have been greatly redesigned offering far more premium looking smartphones. Well, Samsung are not one to miss a trick when it comes to capitalizing on anticipation and it is no secret that Samsung likes making videos. With these two points in mind, Samsung has today released a video promoting the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and in particular, the excitement around the two devices.

In conjunction (and celebrating) the launch date for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the video plays on the anticipation which has been increasingly building since the devices launched. The video, entitled “Anticipation” shows a number of people engaging in a number of excitement building scenarios. To give you a few examples, a ballet dancer before hitting the stage, a rugby scrum before engaging and a group of friends moments before their fairground ride begins. The video then shows the Galaxy S6 Edge and this is quickly followed by all the events starting (the ballet curtains opening, fairground ride beginning, scrum engaging). The video also comes with the interesting YouTube statement “We are all united by the desire to find out what’s next. And we live for the moment when possibility becomes reality, when the future becomes real. Because that’s when we feel most alive. The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge are what’s next from Samsung. And Next Is Now.” You can check out the video for yourself in full by hitting play below.

Lyft tries to get social with latest update

lyft_profiles

Lyft, the “taxi & bus alternative,” is moving into the realm of social platforms with a new update they have rolled out that makes “Profiles” available to users. The new feature is designed to add a little extra level of comfort and familiarity between riders and drivers and perhaps bridge the awkwardness that is present when strangers meet. Lyft says they were inspired by some feedback they got from users of their Lyft Line carpooling service. Those users reported they ended up sharing interesting connections and in some cases forming friendships.

The new Profiles feature gives users the ability to add three data points to their account – hometown, favorite music, and an open-ended bio where users can put in whatever they want to share. Driver profiles will have some additional data including their average star rating and the number of rides provided. Lyft is not making the completion of the Profile information mandatory, so users can just leave it blank if they want.

You can get the Lyft app for your Android device using one of the Play Store links below. Do you think Lyft’s Profiles will prove to be a successful addition to their service?

Samsung Galaxy S6 Review: Samsung's Most Unexpected And Best Phone To Date

wm_gg1

Samsung must have known it had a problem early in the Galaxy S5's run when most of the reviews called the phone "boring" or "predictable," while also conceding that it was a good device. A good, predictable phone isn't going to sell like gang busters, and indeed, the Galaxy S5 fell short of expectations. Over the next few months, we saw devices like the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 that played around with more premium materials and different designs, but the Galaxy S6 is the culmination of Samsung's plans to rehab its reputation.

[DEAL] – Amazon has the leather Moto 360 for $179 and the metal Moto 360 for $229

Moto_360_Slim_Band_Champagne_Gold_01

For those of you that have yet to get on the wearable bandwagon and are looking to jump in while keeping your wallet relatively intact, Amazon has your back. Today the online retailer is selling both the metal and leather Moto 360 watches for deeply discounted prices.

That’s right ladies and gentlemen, $179 will net you the leather-wristband Moto 360 and $229 will score you a metal-clad version. While the Moto 360 has been surpassed by newer Android Wear devices it remained the smartwatch to beat when it first came out and even though there may be newer options, the Moto 360 is still a decent Android Wear device and one hard to pass up with the deep discounts Amazon has them for.

Microsoft’s Multi-OS Patent May Help Android App Windows 10 Compatibility

Microsoft-Logo-AH1

Microsoft recently received an important patent entitled “Multi-OS (operating system) boot via mobile device” relating to operating systems and how they run on mobile devices. At the time, the obvious connection was a mobile device that can dual boot between Windows and Android, but of course this technology doesn’t require a patent. Instead, let’s take a deeper look at United States Patent number 9,000,173 and what differentiates it from running either Android or Windows 10 on a single device. Here, the trick is that either the user or the device selects the operating system (OS) necessary for the task in mind. This in turn can be tuned for better battery life, device responsiveness and even improved security. By way of examples, rather than a smartphone device booting into full Windows, it may first launch a cut down operating system with the ability to handle an emergency call. Another use is that when the camera button is depressed with the smartphone off, rather than Windows 10 launching, the device instead calls a camera-centric OS, which is quicker to boot and uses fewer resources (and therefore battery power) to take pictures.

The ability to tune the device depending on what is necessary will have advantages for enterprise, or big business, scenarios too – here, the bootloader will only run part of an operating system when the user activates the device, but whereby the device is called upon to connect to enterprise applications and services, additional parts of the operating system may need to be loaded for the extra security provisioning. By only using the parts of Windows that are required, this will save resources and ultimately battery life. Users can disable parts of the system depending on use, location, date and time: this could be a great way for system administration to ensure that workers are not accessing their corporate email outside of official office time, which is illegal in some parts of the world. Microsoft’s patent includes the provision for allowing the necessary parts of the operating system to be available via cloud services rather than stored on the device. This has important implications for keeping the device up to date: when the device needs to run a new part of the OS, it can go online and keep things up to date.

And now for the interesting part, where a couple of weeks ago we reported how Microsoft were still considering running Android applications via Windows 10. One of the missing pieces has just been put into the jigsaw: this patent means that Microsoft could be considering running Android OS on mobile hardware and this in turn could be used to provide support for Android applications. It means that a user won’t need to boot the device into Android in order to run their favorite Android application but instead, Windows figures out what parts of Android it needs to run in order to run the application. Better yet when it comes to compatibility, but the Windows device could conceivably be downloaded or streamed from the cloud.

We are still a long way from seeing how or even if Microsoft are going to bundle Android application compatibility into Windows 10, but this new patent shows that Microsoft are certainly thinking outside of the established box.

Watch the first batch of Samsung Galaxy S6 commercials [VIDEO]

anticipation

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxys S6 Edge are officially on sale now. Samsung has already been heavily advertising the devices, but now we should see the marketing really pick up. This is where Samsung sets itself apart from other Android manufacturers. Everyone knows what a “Galaxy” is, and soon everyone will know the Galaxy S6.

The first couple of new Galaxy S6/Edge ads are starting to pop up on Samsung’s YouTube channels. The first one stars James Corden, new host of The Late Show. In the ad he is battling with his alter-ego hipster director, who Samsung named “Wilf” for some reason.

The second ad is all about anticipation. You can see people at the top of roller coasters, at the top of a waterfall, about to go on stage, and more. The the Galaxy S6 Edge is shown and everyone experiences the joy that follows anticipation.

What do you think of these new ads?
