Huawei Honor Holly Is Now Available In Germany As Well For €99 ($113)
Huawei Honor Holly was launched in India last year, and we recently reported that it is available for purchase in Europe from Amazon.co.uk. Well, this low-mid range handset by Huawei is now available from a German retailer now as well. German consumer electronics company, MediaMarkt, is now offering the device for €99 ($113), plus €2 ($2.3) for shipping. The device is currently in stock and you can get it if you’d like. As a side note, the device costs £74.99 ($117) on Amazon, so we’re not looking at much of a difference here.
The Honor Holly features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable via microSD card. MediaTek’s MT6582 quad-core SoC running at 1.3GHz is powering on this handset along with Mali-400 MP2 GPU for graphics. On the back of this device, you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera, while a 2-megapixel shooter is available on its front side. 2,000mAh battery ships with this device along with Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Huawei’s Emotion UI 2.3 skin installed on top of it. We’re talking about a dual SIM device here which doesn’t offer 4G LTE connectivity unfortunately, this is a 3G handset we’re talking about here. The Honor Holly measures 142.2 x 72.3 x 9.4mm and weighs 156 grams.
There you have it folks, another retailer listed the Honor Holly. This is of course not the most powerful device around, but if you’re looking for a low-mid range handset which is really affordable, this might be something to consider, though truth be said, there are a lot of other offerings out on the market today. Samsung’s VP And PayPal Founder Held A Meeting Yesterday Allegedly Discussing Samsung Pay
Samsung Pay has been rumored for a long time now, reports started coming our way a while ago, and the company did recently acquired LoopPay, another mobile wallet solution available in the market. The details of this purchase weren’t provided by Samsung or LoopPay, so we don’t know how much Samsung actually paid in order to acquire the LoopPay. Either way, Samsung is working on Samsung Pay round the clock it seems.
Samsung’s Vice President and heir, Lee Jae-yong has met with PayPal founder Peter Thiel yesterday, at Samsung-owned hotel in downtown Seoul according to Korea Herald. The two of them held an hour-long meeting, which was allegedly all about Samsung Pay. “Samsung’s Lee may have asked for business advice from Thiel, who is an expert in fintech. Expectations are high that Samsung will soon launch a new competitor to Apple Pay.”
It is not exactly a secret that Samsung wants to launch Samsung Pay in order to compete with Apple Pay, and it seems like the company is trying to get all the info possible, Peter Thiel truly is an expert in that area. Samsung Pay wasn’t exactly officially confirmed, but taking into account the amount of reports that came our way, and of course this meeting, it’s safe to assume Samsung is working on it. It is even rumored that Samsung Pay will kick off soon, debut on Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S6 flagship, and that it will work basically anywhere magnetic stripe credit and debit cards are accepted, worldwide.
Samsung Pay might be a better solution than Apple Pay, in a way. Apple’s solution requires sellers to have POS terminals with dedicated systems ready, while Samsung might use LoopPay directly, which is in theory easier to because it does not require POS terminals, or anything of the sort. As a side note, Google has acquired Softcard recently as well, probably as a reaction to the news regarding Samsung Pay and what not. In any case, it will be interesting to see these three tech giants battle it out in the mobile payment arena.

Fly Mobile Unveiled Two Octa-Core Smartphones And An Entry-Level Device In India
Fly Mobile, a company founded in the UK, has just released a couple of new smartphones in India. Fly Qik and Qik+ are company’s newly-launched low-mid range handsets for the Indian market, while Fly Mobile has also unveiled the low-end Fly Snap handset. Anyhow, let’s check see what these handsets have to offer, shall we.
The more powerful of the two is the Fly Qik+. This handset features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card up to 32GB). This handset is powered by MediaTek’s MT6592 octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz which ships with a Mali 450-MP4 GPU for graphics. 13-megapixel snapper is located on the back of this device (LED flash included), while a 5-megapixel shooter can be found on the front side of this device. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this device, and we’re talking about a dual SIM handset here which offers 3G HSPA+ connectivity and ships with a 2,200mAh battery.
Fly Qik, on the other hand, sports a 4.5-inch 854 x 480 FWVGA IPS display, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of in-built storage (expandable via microSD card up to 32GB). This device is powered by the same chip listed in the paragraph above, the MediaTek MT6592. 8-megapixel camera is available on the back of this device and is flanked by an LED flash, while a 5-megapixel shooter can be found up front. The Fly Qik also offers 3G HSPA+ connectivity and dual SIM functionality, while it ships with a 2,000mAh battery.
The company has also introduced a low-end Fly Snap device which boasts a 4-inch WVGA display, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of expandable internal storage. 5 and 2-megapixel camera are also a part of the package, and the device is powered by MediaTek’s MT6582 quad-core chips clocked at 1.3GHz. Android 4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed here, and this device offers 3G connectivity and ships with a 1,500mAh battery.
The Fly Qik+ is priced at Rs. 6,999, Fly Qik will set you back Rs. 5,999 and the low-end Fly Snap costs Rs. 2,999. All of these devices are available exclusively from Snapdeal in India, in case you’re interesting in purchasing one of them.

Huawei Unveils Nova, World’s First 16nm FinFET 64-Bit Networking Chip
As we’re waiting to see what will Huawei showcase at the upcoming MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona, the company has introduced a new processor. Huawei has unveiled the world’s first processor based on 16nmFinFet technology called Nova. We’re talking about a networking chip here, it supports GSM /UMTS / LTE FDD / LTE TDD on a single chip. This SoC is based on ARM64 architecture, and the 16FinFET process, as previously mentioned. Huawei says that this chip is 67% more efficient than regular chips, and that it offer better overall performance.
“The launch of Nova is testament to Huawei’s continued leadership and innovation in the ICT industry. Along with enabling the most advanced mobile network, Nova will provide customers access to the very best mobile broadband experience,” said Wang Jun, President of the SingleRAN & FDD Product Line at Huawei Wireless Network Product Line. The high capacity board reduces power consumption according to the company. They have also announced the world’s first L-band antenna which supports Ultra Wide Band (UWB) and multi-band. This antenna supports all the major frequency bands at 700 / 800 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600MHz, but it also enables the 1500MHz band.
Huawei will showcase this chip at MWC next week, so stay tuned for that. That being said, we’re seeing a lot of innovation when it comes to mobile chips lately. Samsung’s new flagship(s) will be powered by the company’s newest 14nm Exynos processor, which will also be the first processor built on the 14nm technology in the mobile market, and now Huawei announced their new networking chip. These two aren’t all that related considering we’re talking about a whole mobile SoC, and a networking chip here, but it’s worth mentioning that we’ll probably see more of these at MWC. Huawei has been doing a great job lately, 2014 was a great year for the company, and they’re expecting 2015 to be even better and more profitable for them.
