Check Out These Three New Awesome Chromebook Ads By Google

AH HP Chrome Chromebook 14-4

Chromebooks by Google are basically internet devices, but despite their very slight more limited capability they sell extremely well actually. Looking at the U.S. sales, Chromebooks took a rather big chuck of the market, 35% of all sold notebooks are in fact Chromebooks. Some of you might ask what is a Chromebook? Well, it’s basically a laptop with Google’s Chrome OS (Operating System) inside. Chrome OS is a browser-based operating system (you guessed it, Chrome browser) which relies heavily on internet connection and Chrome apps. You can use it offline, but not many things work quite well in that mode, although Google is making efforts to change that in the future, at least to some degree. This is, after all, an internet device which performs its tasks rather well.

The biggest appeal to customers when it comes to Chromebooks is their price (with the exception of Chromebook Pixel). You can get a rather solid internet device for as low as $200, and we’re talking about a new device. Many manufacturers are in on it, Samsung, HP, Dell, Acer… With that in mind, this is a great thing to get your kid for school, isn’t it? Well, Google thinks it is and it’s trying to sell you one for that very same purpose.

Google came up with three new ads for Chromebooks: For Students, For Get Up and Go Built In, and For Never Losing a Paper. In the first one Google is trying to emphasize that a Chromebook is all you need in a laptop, along with quick mentions of Google Docs and Hangouts, among other things. The second commercial is taking a different approach, it’s briefly showing you a couple of different Chromebook devices and is trying to show you how inexpensive and fast-booting these devices are, which is true. The third one also goes the pricing and Google Docs route. All three of these commercials are really short and nothing to write home about but they might intrigue people, which I believe is Google’s plan after all. You know that saying “a picture is worth a thousand words”, well, then videos are worth a heck of a lot more, right? Go check these out yourself if you’d like, who knows, maybe they’ll intrigue you as well.

[Weekend Poll] Would You Buy A 5.9" Nexus Phone?

nexusae0_logo-moto-footer_thumb

We've come to have reason to believe that Motorola and possibly Google are working on a 5.9" phone codenamed Shamu. That's about all we know. We know it showed up in Google's issue tracker, and that the issue was created by a known testing company who check prerelease hardware for just this sort of thing. We know the device is running a Google-built kernel and that this points to a Nexus or, at least, something Nexus-like.

[New Android Wear App] Swipify brings useful tools to Google’s wearable platform

swipify_app_icon

The simplicity of Android Wear has actually made people feel indifferent about the platform. The idea of a basic interface with little control is appealing; however, hardcore Android fans want features that exist on the phone/tablet version of Android. This includes an app launcher, app switcher, deep settings, and a RAM meter. Swipify is a new Android Wear app that delivers each of those features for such devices.

Hit the break for more details, the gallery, and download links.

With Swipify’s app switcher and launcher, users can navigate between apps from any location. Since this means apps would then run in the background an take up some RAM, Swipify’s app switcher will allow users to free up some space. And the deeper settings with Swipify features a brightness adjuster and batter level indicator.

Swipify can be activated gestures. By swiping in from right edge of the Android Wear device’s display, recent apps are shown. Swiping from the left edge will show the launcher.

LG Looks The Other Way Over G Watch Charging Pin Corrososion

AH Google IO 2014 LG G Watch (9 of 10)

Both the first two Android Wear smartwatches are definitely cool devices. They offer up some awesome features to users who were looking for a smartwatch that was a little more compatible with their device(Gear devices like the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are only compatible with Samsung phones for example)but as cool as they are, that doesn’t mean they aren’t without their flaws. While users of the Gear Live have reported issues with the connector hole of where the cradle locks in breaking, users of the LG G Watch have recently been complaining about the connector pins on the back of their watch corroding. What’s interesting, maybe even a little bit ironic, is that both problems are leaving users without a way to charge their devices.

The sad thing is that users who have expressed the problem to LG have stated that they’re getting no help at all from the OEM, with one customer stating that LG had finally gotten back to him after an email about the problem. The user, named iborguk, sounds like he felt he was given the cold shoulder from LG with a response that the corrosion issue is not their problem and that they don’t use heavy metals in the manufacturing of the pins that should cause an allergic reaction. When asked if the corrosion could be caused by voltage discharge they basically said no, and that was that leaving iborguk with no help it seems. Multiple users have reported the exact same problem with the charging pins on the back, which makes this not a single case issue.

There are workarounds that one could use if you’re someone who has actually been experiencing this problem yourself, although the best idea might be to contact Google or LG directly and see what they might be able to do for you. The issue seems like it could either be caused by the contact of sweat on the charging pins, causing the corrosion, or some think that it might be an allergic reaction. In either case your alternatives to having the item refunded or replaced if you’re worried about this becoming a problem, are to cover the contacts with insulation tape like some users are doing during use or you could pick up a strap that covers the back and the charging pins like a 22mm NATO strap, suggested by one user where this problem was being expressed. Hopefully this a problem that LG will end up correcting, and without having too many people complaining about it before they take action.

Google Is Testing A Wikipedia-Powered Interactive Timeline View For Historical Knowledge Graph Searches

unnamed (24) According to your grandmother, over 96% of kids these days don't know their history and will be doomed to repeat it. Also, no one learns cursive anymore. There's not a whole lot that Google can do about the latter, but with a new search tool, they may be working on the former. Chrome and Search enthusiast Florian Kiersch posted screenshots of a new Knowledge Graph tool that automatically generates timelines of broad historical topics based on content from Wikipedia.
