We dropped by the Casio booth at CES today, where the company’s newest connected device was proudly on display, the Smart Outdoor Watch. Powered by Android Wear, the Smart Outdoor Watch is designed for those who need to be outdoors exploring nature, whether it be for camping, hiking, fishing, or any other outdoor activity.
As for first impressions, considering how large the body is, the watch was surprisingly light. The overall design reminds me somewhat of a G-Shock, and of course, is quite large looking on my wrist. The watch comes preloaded with a ton of watch faces, as well as features that will help you out in the wild, such as a pressure sensor and fully functional compass.
At the 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock and 4 o’clock positions are dedicated buttons for certain functionalities. You can access your step counter, additional apps, and compass by pressing these buttons. The buttons are made large enough so that a user who is wearing gloves can still easily access them, which is a nice touch.
Below, check out our gallery of hands-on photos.
If you are ready to take this device out into the woods with you, it launches in April for $499.
