With already a month gone in the new year we’re bound to be seeing plenty of new devices hitting the market in the next few months, as well as seeing rumors, plans, and leaks of new devices that may be out before the end of the year. Samsung is one of the OEMs we’ll surely be seeing plenty of new device drops from, including their new lineup of tablets in the Galaxy Tab range. The latest in the series will be Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab 5, which could end up coming with an aspect ratios of 4:3. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing just a little odd since Samsung usually opts for tablet displays with a 16:3 aspect ratio instead.
According to the import/export site Zauba.com, a Galaxy Tab 5 was received for testing and evaluation purposes that is listed with a 9.7-inch size screen, which could be coming with an aspect ratio of 4:3 similar to what is seen on the iPad which sports those same values for the screen size and aspect ratio as well. The tablet is listed as model number SM-T555. As this is just for testing and is listed as a “to be destroyed” unit, it’s possible that this model may not be a finalized version of the tablet and Samsung could still end up making some changes to the unit before its release.
Unfortunately for now there aren’t any other details about the Galaxy Tab 5 that comes along with this listing, so we have no idea as to what the pricing and release dates will be for this device just yet. There also aren’t any specs rumors as of yet but we could end up hearing about upcoming tablets from Samsung at their Unpacked event due to happen on March 1st during Mobile World Congress 2015. That is only just under a month away so if we do end up learning more from Samsung at MWC, it won’t be long before we know more details. There was also a 7-inch tablet spotted on Zauba’s website back at the end of January with a 7-inch screen, possibly believed to be a smaller variant of the Galaxy Tab 5.
