Android Auto, Google’s simplified version of its mobile OS made specifically for cars, is now available from Hyundai. Currently exclusive to 2015 models of the Sonata, dealers can begin updating head units with Android Auto, or current owners can update their units themselves starting later this summer.
Android Auto brings access to Google Maps navigation, as well as Google Play Music, allowing drivers to experience an entertaining ride, while also minimizing distractions. Users can perform voice actions, such as “Ok Google, play metal radio,” or “Ok Google, call Sarah,” which should lead to your hands not leaving 10 and 2 on the wheel as much, fumbling for your smartphone.
I have been driving around with Android Auto installed in my car for the past few days, and so far, it is pretty neat. Even though it is very minimal right now, with the essential features such as Maps, Music, and Dialer working just fine, it will be interesting to see if Google and 3rd-party developers make it a more exciting platform.
Have you installed a Android Auto unit in your vehicle? What are your thoughts on the system?
