Korean consumer durables giant LG’s new flagship smartphone, expected to be officially released as the LG G4 later this month, was ‘accidentally’ leaked last week, when one of their site designers allegedly published an under-construction page pertaining to the device on their official site (it has since been pulled). Although the page contained many incorrect information as regards to some key features such as camera technology and the operating system, some analysts have already started speculating about the future of the device based on the leaks. One of the important things to have gotten a lot of attention – for all the wrong reasons as far as LG is concerned – is that the phone is supposedly about to shipp with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC (System on Chip), which is a step below their current flagship – the Snapdragon 810 – in the pecking order.
Although the absence of Qualcomm’s flagship SoC is far from confirmed through any official channel, some analysts in Korea believe, that if true, it can hurt the sales of the G4, as LG tries to fight for market share against their homegrown rivals Samsung Electronics. Who are the current market leader and seems to be enjoying massive success with their recently released Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge dveices. That is exactly what another analyst from Seoul-based IBK Investment & Securities also believes. The analyst argues, that LG will be struggling to sell their new flagship, even though, it’s an “impressive product” in isolation. Further suggesting, that sales of LG’s upcoming release might not surpass the 10 million mark by much, quite like the G3 – the last generation flagship from LG – which they released in 2014. That’s because, the analyst notes, that following the release of Samsung’s flagships, which have gone on to become wildly successful, “market conditions will not be favorable.”
While the exact chipset used may still be unconfirmed, LG did confirm that the G4 will feature a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) display, a 16 MP rear camera with a wide f/1.8 aperture, an 8 MP front-facing selfie camera and Android Lollipop with a new User-Interface. The G4 will also have multiple variants, with back cover options including leather and plastic. There is no word however, on the probable pricing of the device.
