The latest and greatest Android software version is slowly making its way to more and more device owners out there, and U.S. Cellular Moto X owners are the most recent individuals to get begin getting their hands on the upgrade. Make note that this is for the 2014 version of the Moto X and not the 2013 model. This update will bring users forward to Android 5.0 Lollipop, which brings in quite a few changes not the last of which is all the visual updates due to the Material Design style UI tweaks like lock screen notifications, more bold, vivid use of color across the UI and more attractive animations.
The U.S. Cellular model will not be the last Moto X 2nd Gen. to get this update, but the unlocked version as well as the models on Verizon Wireless and the model sold in the U.K. have already been pushed forward to Android 5.0 so it won’t be alone either. Once users update they should notice a little bit of improved battery life with better tools to help extend life of the battery on the phone throughout the day. The app switcher also gets tweaked and is now called the overview space(previously known as recents)which not only lists the recently opened apps, but any activities associated with those apps, like multiple open tabs in Chrome.
Users should also make note of the new flashlight feature within quick settings, because we all know this comes in handy when we’re stumbling around in the dark trying to find something without kicking a desk or some other piece of furniture while we’re barefoot. Other new additions to look out for with Lollipop are the new Downtime feature and the new Ambient Display feature, device sharing, and one of the coolest features which is the ability to keep the Moto X unlocked as a “trusted device” whenever a device like the Moto 360 or a Bluetooth headset comes in close enough proximity to the phone. The update should be rolling out to users as of now and will continue to do so probably over the next couple of days. The software package download weighs in at about 400MB so users will want to make sure there is enough space and enough battery life to initiate and finish the update fully without interruption.
