If you are one of the few who has already decided to invest in Samsung’s take on virtual reality, the Samsung Gear VR then you have probably already managed to partake in some interesting content. In spite of the high price tag and initial issues with the device, Samsung seems to be investing heavily in the future of the platform. Well, if you do own the VR and are a basketball fan, there is some interesting news coming down the wire.
This weekend is the NBA All-Star Basketball game and the NBA announced yesterday that they will be offering exclusive access for owners of the Gear VR. In fact, the NBA have announced that they will be filming the game using special virtual reality cameras. All the action from the game will be captured and made available to owners of the Gear VR. The one downside is that the action will not be available live. Instead, the NBA will be releasing the footage in a couple of weeks through Milk VR. The NBA has partnered on this occasion with BigLook360, a company who manufactures virtual reality cameras to supply the cameras which will be used to film the footage.
As well as the actual big game, the NBA will also be filming several All-Star events over the weekend including the three-point competition and the slam dunk contest. All of which will be made available to Gear VR in the upcoming weeks through Milk VR. This could prove to be an important milestone in the establishing of Gear VR in the marketplace. This is probably one of the higher profile events Samsung have managed to secure and will be seen as a prime example of what Gear VR owners can expect in the future. If you have yet to pick up the VR, then you do still have time before the NBA footage becomes available. Not to mention you can now buy and try the Gear VR in a number of Best Buy Locations. Although, it is worth bearing in mind that it does not come cheap. As well as its standard $200 price tag, you do need the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to run the device. Are you already a Gear VR owner?
