Xiaomi has announced the latest version of its custom Android user interface and it looks a lot like iOS. MIUI 6 focuses on simplistic and intuitive design, enhanced usability, and reliable security. Regardless of why you think MIUI looks the way it does, Xiaomi has a pretty damn nice user interface on its hands.

For the design, Xiaomi has overhauled MIUI so that the software can present users with what they would like to do in a seamless way. Everything is “so natural and effortless” because complexity is out of the picture. Key applications have been redesigned and everything is much more organized. To be visually pleasing, MIUI 6 uses a ton of color on top of mostly white backgrounds.

The feature set of MIUI has grown greatly with this new version. MIUI 6 will identify unknown numbers and attach a wealth of information to service call contacts. The home screen now has gesture support and the notification shade has been revamped with a cleaner look and new toggles. The Notification Center of MIUI 6 collects everything and has unfolding notifications and floating calls for everything including calls. This is useful as it keeps everything off of the display when a user is busy doing something. Users can also apply settings to specific apps’ notifications.
Using Xiaomi’s Mi Cloud nets 10GB of free storage, but much of that only works with the company’s other products (like the Mi Phone, Mi Pad, and Mi TV).
The performance and security of enhancements with MIUI 6 allow users to not even bother downloading outside safety tools and services. It reads for viruses and malicious apps and checks permissions before permitting anything. The Virus Scan feature will apparently “check and kill” a virus before an app is installed and the damage has been done. Clean Master a bundled tool that makes sure your device is running up to speed with enough memory to spare.
