The CyanogenMod team just announced the release of nightly CM 11 builds for the critically acclaimed HTC One (M8).

The device will bear the M8 codename and builds will be available for the GSM, Verizon, and Sprint versions. If you aren’t sure what version you own, you can run a simple ADB command to check, with the following possible returns:

  • # 0P6B10000 – International

  • # 0P6B12000 – AT&T/Dev Edition

  • # 0P6B13000 – T-Mobile

  • # 0P6B16000 – Telus/Rogers (Canada)

  • # 0P6B20000 – Verizon

  • # 0P6B70000 – Sprint

The command is ‘adb shell getprop ro.boot.mid‘. As advised by the CM team in this Google Plus post, if you run a custom recovery on your M8, make sure it’s compatible with the following variants: m8, m8wl, m8wlv, m8vzw, m8whl, and m8spr.

At the time of this writing, the One (M8) CM11 nightly builds are not up just yet, but they should become available in a matter of hours on the download page.

Nightly builds of CyanogenMod, commonly called nightlies, are builds that incorporate any changes made in the previous day of development. As such, they are considered the cutting-edge in terms of new features, but they are also inherently less stable and less polished.

If nightlies are not stable enough for your taste, you should opt for Milestone releases, which have replaced the old Stables/Release Candidates and are generally solid enough for daily usage even by less experienced users. The most recent Milestone is M6, and the next one should land in the next 2-4 weeks. When it’s released, M7 will probably be available for the HTC One (M8) as well, but for now, you will have to do with nightlies.
