Android Headliner: Why Can’t Google Do Nexus 6 Pre-Orders Correctly?

Nexus-6-AH-7

It’s time to rant. And we don’t often do that here at Android Headlines. But it’s kind of annoying that the Nexus 6 has gone up for pre-order twice from Google and has sold out in about 30 seconds or less each time. Meanwhile, Motorola can put up the Nexus 6 for pre-order and not sell out for almost 2 hours. Kinda strange right? Now there are all kinds of theories as to why Google has sold out so quickly. From Google trying to push people to carriers to buy the Nexus 6, to everything in between. I can actually buy that Google wants you to go to a carrier and buy the Nexus 6. Why? Because they want you to get support from your carrier and not Google. While Google doesn’t have the best support – then again who does – theirs isn’t the worst. I’ve seen companies with much worse customer service, especially for warranties.

So does Google only have about 2 Nexus 6’s in stock when they go up for pre-order? Probably. Which does suck. Because a lot of us want to buy the Nexus 6, but don’t want to be tied to a carrier for two years. Which seems like that’s what Google wants us to do. Unfortunately. With the Nexus 6 going for around $650-700, it’s no wonder most people are going to probably get the device subsidized. It only makes sense. As most people don’t want to pay $700 all at once. They’d rather it be spread out over a certain time frame. Which makes plenty of sense to me.

Has Google become Xiaomi, or Meizu, or another Chinese OEM? It sure looks like it. The way they sell their devices is they say that they will be available at a certain time, and they sell out within seconds. Usually Xiaomi sells about 100 thousand phones in 15 seconds or so. And that’s what it seems like Google is doing right now, but they aren’t mentioning numbers. And with former-Googler Hugo Barra at Xiaomi, one has to wonder if he’s been sending stuff back to Google and saying to do this.

We still have no idea when the Nexus 6 is going to be available, officially. Outside of pre-orders. There’s word of a November 12th release date, but that hasn’t been confirmed just yet. Hopefully when it is finally available everyone will be able to get their hands on a Nexus 6 without any issues. How many of you have been able to get your Nexus 6 pre-order into either Google or Motorola already? Let us know in the comments down below.
