When Google introduced us to its official Newsstand application back in November, 2013, many early users complained about its clunkiness. They claimed it featured an unsophisticated, tasteless design and was difficult to use. It now appears, however, that the company has taken this user feedback on board and is rolling out an update which it hopes will please all users.
According to Google, the upgrade bundles a “fresh new look” which includes some of the Material Design choices that are part of the upcoming Android L release. This will permit the Newsstand app to have “bigger images, more contextual headers and smoother transitions.”
“Today’s redesign brings a new magazine reading experience on your phone. In the past, print magazines have been hard to read on a small screen, zooming in and out to skim an article. But now you’ll see a list of articles from the magazine that you can toggle through and easily read with big images right on your phone,” explains Google.
Why not have a look through the screenshots below and let us know what you think of the redesign in the comments section?
