Usually, as the year inches towards a new iPhone release, people eligible for upgrades in the summer and fall will wait until the latest iPhone is released to get their upgrades. Apple’s sales tend to fall for that short period every year. However, this year they managed to only drop 1.6%, as compared to around 3% last year.
There are many possible reasons for Apple’s consistent sales. Perhaps consumers didn’t see there being a huge difference between the 5S and the 6 or 6+, or maybe a number of users wanted to keep their displays at 4 inches. Another plausible explanation is the price drop with the iPhone 5C. Thanks to the recent price drop, the 5C is now a budget phone and is therefore attracting many more people who would be opting for cheaper devices running a different OS. Either way, this data raises some questions about Apple’s sales thus far this year.
