MediaTek processors are extremely popular nowadays. Most popular manufacturers still rely on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, as they should, considering Qualcomm sure does make beastly chips which simply tear through anything you throw at them. MediaTek, on the other hand, makes solid low-cost chips which fit in perfectly with low-cost Chinese smartphones, although MediaTek has big plans to widen its business on as many brands as possible. First batch of Android One smartphones which Google introduced the other day all sport MediaTek’s chips, which is saying something. Much talked about Meizu MX4 also sports MediaTek’s chip, in its case its an octa-core processor.
We haven’t exactly heard of many tablets sporting MediaTek’s chips thus far, we mostly hear “MediaTek” when talking about smartphones. MediaTek has seen the demand on the market for low-cost tablets it seems and is trying to break into that market as well. H’max MX9 is low-cost tablet which will sport a 6.95-inch 1024 x 600 display once it hits the market. The device will be around 7mm thick and will sport MediaTek’s MTK8382 quad-core chip it seems. This device will be dual-SIM capable and will provide 1GB of RAM along with 16GB of internal storage. 8-megapixel camera will be located on the back of the device while a 2-megapixel snapper will be featured up front. Android 4.4 KitKat will come pre-installed on this device.
As you can see, if you take a look at the image above, the device isn’t that bad looking at all. It looks just fine and even though there’s no word on pricing just yet, this should be an extremely affordable piece of technology. I can see this sell really well in China, if manufacturer gets the price right of course, it’s all about pricing when it comes to low-end and even mid-range devices. What are your thoughts on MediaTek’s chips and the looks of this device (presume it will be a low-cost product)? This device will get launched in China and probably won’t leave Asia as far as availability goes. We’ll know more details once they launch the device.
