ASUS Nexus Player Android TV Box Shows Up In Benchmark Listing

AH ASUS STEEL LOGO 2014 -3

It’s safe to say that Android TV was met with good responses and praise since its announcement at Google I/O this year, and all the more reason why many of us can’t wait for the devices to become available. While we still have a little bit of time to wait before Google’s new Android powered set top boxes hit store shelves, it seems that we may have stumbled onto some benchmark data that points to one of the manufacturers that Google could be working with for the manufacturing of at least one Android TV box.

According to these results that popped up on GFXBench it seems that ASUS will be one of the OEMs to produce an Android TV box, of which there will be a handful of other options. Google states that they will be working with a selection of different OEMs to bring Android TV set top boxes and TV’s to market. The GFXBench listing results show us the ASUS device is called the ASUS Nexus Player, although at this point in time we don’t know if that is exactly what it will be called when it launches, furthermore you should take its existence and the name with a tiny grain of salt for now, although Google has also named ASUS as one of the first forthcoming OEMs with an Android TV box coming, so there’s a good chance what we’re looking at is the real deal.

When it comes to the specs, it looks like the ASUS Nexus player will be running Android L, so with that being said we can probably expect this device to launch either alongside the new Nexus tablet and new rumored Nexus phone, or sometime shortly after as we’re expecting Android L to release with the launch of those devices. It’s also running an Intel quad-core CPU, and the graphics are powered by an Imagination Technologies PowerVR Rogue G6430 GPU. Basically we shouldn’t expect this device to be a slouch when it comes to the graphics or performance end of things, although real world results are still unknown so even though it looks and sounds good on paper, things will have to be tested before any judgement can be made. With Android TV having a strong focus on gaming, we’re hopeful that ASUS and Intel are pulling out all the stops here. It’s also listed as having 5.8GB of internal storage although that is probably the available amount after software and such, so the device itself probably sits at 8GB. It also comes with 1GB of RAM, which is something we were hoping to see more of, but perhaps it’ll do just fine with that amount. If this device hits in the next month or two, will you be picking one up?
