You may remember a few weeks ago when AT&T offered what they said was their “lowest price ever” on a family plan. Which was 4 lines with unlimited talk and text and 10GB of data to share for $160/month. Of course you knew T-Mobile’s CEO John Legere wouldn’t take that lying down. So he offered 4 lines with unlimited talk and text and 2.5GB of high-speed data each, which is throttled after that, for $100/month. That is a promotional deal that ends in September, and those that sign up will get the 2.5GB plan for about 2 years, then it drops to 1GB of high-speed data.
Well according to a leaked internal memo that TmoNews got their hands on, it looks like T-Mobile is about to expand it to 6-10 lines. With 6 lines costing $120 and each additional line being $20. You would get 2.5GB of data for this price, but that will end in January 2016, according to the memo. The plan will only be available to those with A, B or C credit and are on Simple Choice or Classic plans with at least 6 lines on their account.
So basically what it looks like here, is a way for T-Mobile to move more people off of their older plans and onto a newer one. We don’t have all the information just yet, and since this is a leak, it’s important we treat it as one. So we’ll wait for T-Mobile to make it official, probably in the next few days or so. As Legere doesn’t waste any time with this stuff.
This does sound like a great deal for those with multiple lines, especially between 6 and 10 lines. Just make sure you do read the fine print, as the 2.5GB of data is only good until January 2nd, 2016, then it drops to 1GB of data. After you hit that cap you’ll be throttled, unless the FCC has anything to say about it.
