Asleep on the train? Google Now can wake you up before your stop

google now nexus 5

If you ever had to commute by train, subway, or bus late in the evening or – oh, the humanity – very early in the morning, you might be familiar with the horrible feeling of waking up to the realization that you dozed your way pass your get off station.

Google Now already learns your daily routes, so wouldn’t it be helpful if the service could give you a gentle nudge when your usual stop is next? It seems that Google Now can do that right now, as spotted by the folks at Android Police.

The functionality looks pretty simple – when the phone determines you are approaching your station, an alarm will go off, hopefully waking you up from your nap or bout of daydreaming. The feature could also be useful if you like to dive into your device and seal yourself off from the world while commuting, so you don’t have to keep looking at what stop you are.

It looks that the feature requires you to manually set the alarm, so you won’t get an annoying wakeup call every time you take the bus or train.
