High Noon 2 – Indie app of the day

What is High Noon 2?

indie app of the day

High Noon 2 is a third person shooter that focuses more on one-on-one dueling. The premise is simple. You create a character, choose some weapons, and duel it out with other people online to see who can kill each other with the highest efficiency. It’s a throwback to the Wild West days when dueling was popular and that is reflected in the character and scenery design.

The dueling is not your average duel. You don’t just pull out a gun and shoot until the smoke clears and someone is dead. Instead you are given a weapon and some other stuff as well. Items such as the lasso can be used to give you an advantage while items like dynamite work pretty much how you would expect them to. There are two ways to play. You can invite friends or you can have an opponent selected at random. For the time being there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who you get matched up against so you may end up being over or under matched on a fairly frequent basis.

Through dueling you’ll get in-game money which you can use on upgrades, costumes, and power ups. The more duels you win, the more your opponents receive for defeating you. Thus, the people at the top of the list are worth the most money if you manage to beat them. You can also steal resources from opponents if you’d like to play it that way.

Overall, the game mechanics and graphics are pretty decent. The game employs a tilt-and-tap method where you tilt to aim and tap to shoot or use items. A fun little mechanism is you must flip your phone down and wait for the bell to start. This means you cannot play with the game on mute. It also means you must “holster your gun” and draw it to start firing at people. That kind of authentic

What is wrong with this game?

The title is fairly new and thus has a few early jitters. Some people are having issues with the game loading although that appears to be only on some devices. Some people have also commented negatively on the game mechanics. Specifically the aim which is understandable as the tilt controls are a little jerky sometimes. The other game mechanic people don’t seem to like are the larger players spamming certain moves over and over again to get wins.

Final thoughts

Overall, this is a fairly fun little game. High Noon 2 incorporates some unique game play features like when it asks you to “draw your phone” like a gun and the game play is pretty fun once you get the controls down. Of course, like all games with unique mechanics, some people will love it while others will not. If you’d like to try it out, it is a free to play game. Just follow the button below!
