T-Mobile to Raise Pricing for Select Plans on November 15

Yesterday, during T-Mobile’s UnCarrier X event, the company announced the amping up of Simple Choice plans. Pretty much all plans would see a doubling of the data amount they received and these changes would be absolutely free. However, now that the buzz from all of the Binge On hype is wearing off, it appears that new T-Mobile customers will end up footing a slightly larger monthly bill than existing ones.

Most notably are those who choose the $80 Unlimited plan, which received a doubling of 7GB for high speed tethering to 14GB. A rate increase of $15 a month from $80 to $95 will take place on November 15. For the extra $15 a month, the 14GB of tethering data is still pretty good, and there is no charge for going over that limit – you will just be kicked down to much lower speeds until the next bill cycle.

In addition, T-Mobile currently has a 10GB for two lines for $100 plan. Once November 15 hits, that plan will increase to $120. Single line plans, such as the $60 for 3GB plan, will see an increase of $5 to $65 for 6GB of data. Again, you are getting double the amount of data, but there is a $5 increase in price.

It is speculated by industry insiders that a reason for these increases is the company’s new service Binge On. It allows T-Mobile customers to stream 480p video from many top providers that won’t count against their monthly data plan. It is reported that Binge On could cut T-Mobile’s data traffic by one third, leading to huge savings for the company. With the rate increases, on top of savings from less people streaming HD and Full HD content, T-Mobile plans to rake in more cash.

T-Mobile is a business after all, so none of this should come as a shocker, but if you planned on switching over to T-Mobile, you may want to do so now to lock in the cheaper prices before the rate increases take effect on November 15.

DEAL: Amazon Echo Drops to $149 Today Only ($30 Off)

Amazon Echo, a cylindrical Bluetooth speaker that doubles as a semi-assistant for your home, is on sale for today only at $149.99. That’s a $30 discount, in case you were wondering.

Not familiar with Amazon Echo? It’s actually pretty cool. I have one in my kitchen, as does my brother. We both use ours to play music by using voice commands (like “Hey, Alexa, play 90s hip hop.”), ask it for answers to questions we may be having during a conversations, and set timers while cooking this or that. It really is a highly useful tool that can also take care of your media needs when in a pinch.

It does much more than those few things, though. By triggering it with a “Hey, Alexa” command (Why it isn’t “Hey, Echo” is beyond me.), you can also ask it for weather, news, traffic, and sports scores. You can also connect to services like Pandora or iHeartRadio, Philips Hue, SmartThings, and you Google Calendar. You can even shop, by asking it to re-order Prime-eligible products.

Again, it’s $30 off, today only.

To get a sense for the virtual reality experience you will see with a Samsung Gear VR headset, check out the clip below.

If you pre-order today, expect your Gear VR to ship as early as November 20. Carriers, like T-Mobile, will begin carrying the headset as early as November 27.

Deal: Google Selling the Moto 360 (1st Gen) at Just $99.99

Still in love with the design of the Moto 360 (1st Gen)? Well, Google is selling them for just $99 on the Google Store, available in Stone and Black models. Previously priced at $149, that’s another $50 mark down on the device, bringing it to its lowest price yet. When first launched, these were going for $250, so $99 ain’t all bad.

Now, would I go recommending the Moto 360 (1st Gen) with its T.I. OMAP processor? Not exactly, but if blowing $250+ on a new Android Wear smartwatch does not interest you, this smartwatch will surely get the job done, and is still receiving updates from Motorola. So it’s not a bad option by any means.

If interested, check it out.

Cheers Tony!

Blackberry Priv Unboxing and Tour!

Oh, hey, physical keyboard lovers. We have a special treat for you today in the form of the Blackberry Priv. What’s that? There aren’t any real keyboard lovers left, only those who once thought they loved physical keyboards before realizing that on-screen keyboards were better but now are trying to re-convince themselves that maybe, just maybe, a physical keyboard made by Blackberry that is attached to mostly stock Android could be a winner? Yeah, well, this is for you!

Now that the Blackberry Priv is in house, we plan to give it the ol’ dipsy-doo review. Of course, we first wanted to take it for a spin in the unboxing machine to give you some first impressions with this Android-powered Blackberry phone. How odd does that sound? “Android-powered Blackberry phone.” Weird.

Anyways, here we go! Full review is on the way.

T-Mobile “Amps” Up Simple Choice Plans, Doubles Amount of Data

In addition to Binge On, T-Mobile announced during UnCarrier X this morning that they are doubling data amounts for all Simple Choice plans across the board. Previously, a Simply Choice plan started at $50 a month for 1GB of high-speed 4G data speed, but now, that plan comes with 2GB of high-speed data. The same goes for any and all lines added onto the plan – all will have double the amount of data.

Adding a second line still costs $30 a month, but comes with 2GB of high-speed data, instead of just 1GB. Additional lines after the second line are priced at just $10 a month for 2GB of high-speed data, with a max of 10GB of high-speed data for each line. A plan is maxed at 12 lines. T-Mobile emphasizes that these are not buckets and there is no sharing involved. Each line has its own amount of data it can use.

To help celebrate today’s news, T-Mobile is making the fourth line free. For a limited time, a family of four can get four lines for $120 with 6GB per person (24GB total), with no sharing, at just $30 per line.

Given these are Simple Choice plans, they have access to all of the great features offered by T-Mobile, including Music Freedom, Binge On, Data Stash, Mobile Without Borders, and WiFi Un-leashed.

T-Mobile states these Simple Choice plans go live on November 15.
