This Icon Pack (Could Be) Hot: Marshmallow Icons [Beta]

What’s the next potentially hot focus for icon designers? It could be Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Assuming Google tweaks some things here or there as its Material Design ideas evolve, we could see a revamping of something like the stock icons that are used on Android. Maybe. So far there are no signs of that, but if that happens, then hey, we should see a flood of new Material-esque, Marshmellow-inspired icons to take over our phones. 

In case that does actually happen, at least one icon designer is getting a head start on the concept. With Marshmallow icons, you get a “beta” product that so far, includes 150 icons. They’ll look familiar, but yet slightly tweaked from the norm. If anything, they are a semi-fresh take on the current Material Design set of icons that you already know.

Oh, it’s free too, and includes the new Marshmallow wallpapers.

Video: Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ vs. Galaxy S6 Edge

So, yeah, we have a Galaxy S6 Edge+ in house. Interested in it? We are, sort of. Since it’s really just a bigger version of the already-released Galaxy S6 Edge, it’s tough to take this phone all that seriously. OK, that’s not fair, because this phone is equally as good as the smaller Galaxy S6 Edge, it’s just that you already know everything about this phone for the most part, outside of how the Edge experience translates over to a bigger body. Because in reality, that is what we are looking at here. Sure, some specs differ here and there, but what you have in front of you is a blown up Galaxy S6 Edge with a “+” next to its name. 

But since we do have one here, we might as well spend some time with it and its gold body. Tim is well into getting some final thoughts together on the Galaxy Note 5, so until then, we’ll take up some of your time with this other big guy.

The first little thing we wanted to do is compare the new Galaxy S6 Edge+ to the original S6 Edge. In the video below, we talk spec differences, missing or tweaked features, how Samsung has improved the Edge software experience for the better, and how gorgeous that display is.

For who knows how long on Groupon, you can pick up a refurbished G Watch R from LG, priced at just $179.99. These smartwatches still go for $280 on Newegg and other various online retailers, but are no longer available on the Google Store. 

We played with the G Watch R when it first released, loving its fully circular display, good battery life, and of course, the Android Wear OS in general. It was the first Android Wear device to come with a display that was completely round, unlike the Moto 360 with its black bar at the bottom of the display.

The model sold on Groupon comes with a Black leather strap, as well as a charger.

LG Intros G PAD II 10.1, Snapdragon 800 Processor and 7,400mAh Battery

LG has a new tablet this week, the G Pad II 10.1, set to debut during September’s IFA in Europe. To be made available in North America, Europe, and Asia, the tablet features a 10.1″ (1920 x 1200) display, Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, LTE connectivity, 5MP rear-facing camera, and 7,400 mAh battery. 

On top of decent specs, LG has baked plenty of their proprietary software into Android, that being version Android 5.1.1. Included software tweaks will include Reader Mode, Dual Window, QuickMemo+, plus a suite of Microsoft applications.

According to Chris Yie, VP and head of Marketing Communications for LG Mobile Communications, “The LG G Pad II 10.1 was developed in response to consumers’ feedback and optimized for multimedia consumption.”

No pricing or release date has been set, but don’t worry, we will keep you posted once details are announced.

Sprint Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Updates Prep Devices for Samsung Pay

Updates rolling out today to Sprint’s variants of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge will get each phone ready for the launch of Samsung Pay. Keep in mind that Samsung Pay doesn’t actually launch until September 28, but a trial opens tomorrow that select users will get to be a part of.

As for the rest of the update, you are looking at “Live broadcasting via Yahoo!” being loaded, along with better audio with Samsung headsets, UI updates, and bug fixes. 

Here is the list of changes:

  • Samsung Pay
  • Live broadcasting via Yahoo!
  • High Quality Audio (with Samsung headsets)
  • UI updates
  • Bug fixes

The Galaxy S6 is looking at software version G920PVPU2BOH1 and the S6 Edge will get G925PVPU2BOH1.
