Honda Puts Android Auto in New 2016 Accord

Honda announced this afternoon that its brand new, 2016 Accord will be its first model to feature Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay. Not only that, but Honda says that this new Accord is “among the first high-volume cars” in the marketplace to feature both smart auto software packages.

The new Accord is the “highest tech Accord yet,” not only because of the Android Auto integration, but because of its 7-inch capacitive touchscreen and Honda Sensing system, which is a package that provides collision warnings, lane assistance, and adaptive cruise control. 

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be available in EX and above trims starting in August.

Google Voice Voicemail Transcriptions are Now Dramatically Better

Just over a year ago, Google asked Google Voice users for help in improving their voicemail transcription service because it often produced “humorously intelligible” results (see above). Today, the company reported back saying that thanks to participant help, they have been able to reduce transcription errors by 49%. And as a part of that announcement, Google has announced an improved voicemail system for Google Voice and Project Fi that delivers far more accurate transcriptions. 

As a Google Voice or Project Fi user, you don’t have to do anything special in order to experience the new system. All you have to do is continue to use either service.

Yay for improvements that don’t ask you to do a thing.

Whoops! Here is the Promo Video and Specs for the Moto G (3rd Gen)

Motorola needs next Tuesday to get here in a hurry, because if this leak barrage goes on any longer, they aren’t going to have anything new to announce.

This afternoon, Brazilian retailer Americanas felt it was OK to go ahead and post an entire overview video of the yet-to-be-announced Moto G (3rd gen). The video walks through all of its meaningful specs, but they went also included them in the description, in case there was any confusion. 

Thanks to this video, we know that the new Moto G has a 5-inch HD (likely 720p) display, 1.4GHz Snapdragon 410 processor, 8GB or 16GB of storage, micro SD slot that holds 32GB cards, 4G LTE, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and Android 5.1.1.

No mention was made about the Moto Maker stuff we saw earlier today, only that the phone will have swappable back covers in a variety of colors.

In the video’s description, we get this translation:

Surprises abound to the new generation of Moto G, one of the most beloved smartphones from Motorola. The new line of Moto G is available on models Moto G 3rd Generation Color HDTV , Music, Cabernet, Navy Blue and Pink.

And Now We Have Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ Pictures!

The leak game is strong this week. After seeing photos of the OnePlus 2 and the Moto X (3rd gen), we now have photos allegedly of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. Their boot screens and potential size certainly lead us to believe that these are the devices we expect to see very soon.

So other than the fact that we have pictures of each phone, have we learned anything new? Not really, no. This is about what we expected from these two phones. One of the photos of the S6 Edge+ shows a model number of SM-G928A, which we talked about as being the AT&T version of the phone. That’s really it in terms of new info. Still, photos! 

With the Galaxy Note 5 photos, we see a phone that looks a lot like previous Notes, only with a glossier, Galaxy S6-like shine. I think it’s safe to assume that the Note 5 will be a mostly-bigger Galaxy S6 with a new S Pen.

As for the Galaxy S6 Edge+…it’s a big Galaxy S6 Edge. This is one of those “We made it bigger because big.” type of things.

Google Keep Update Makes It Even Easier to Create a New Note, Edit Labels

Google Keep received an update yesterday (that is now rolling out to everyone) that rid the app of a floating action button (FAB) and introduced a bottom toolbar that allows you to quickly launch into a new note, minus the extra click required with a FAB.

Can you see the difference in the photo above? It’s actually quite lovely. You no longer have to press the FAB and watch the animation spring up of your options for notes, before choosing one. Now, you just open the app, look at the bottom of the screen and tap on the type of note you would like to take. It’s a subtle change that actually makes the app much simpler to use (in a good way). 

Outside of that change, the app now has a toggle in the top right for switching from grid to single-column view. This single button replaces the menu button that launched a menu that allowed you to switch. In other words, this should have been a toggle all along. Finally, in the slideout nav menu, you will find buttons that allow you to both edit labels and add new ones.

Google Might Let You #PayWithAPhoto Starting July 29

On July 29, Google is going to let you pay with a photo. We don’t know how, but their Google Photos service is involved on some level. According to the below video and various social network shares, it looks like restaurants or specific retailers could be involved. For example, maybe Google, in partnership with a waffle shop, could let you get free waffles by taking pictures of waffles. I have no idea.

Either way, Google will tell us on July 29…maybe through a photo…of food.
