Nuance Announces Dragon Anywhere, Mobile Voice Dictation With a Subscription Price

Those is need of mobile voice dictation can turn to Nuance this week, as the company announced Dragon Anywhere, a paid subscription service that bring’s its desktop voice dictation software to Android and iOS devices.

With this software, users can dictate pretty much all text input on their Android device. Instead of typing out long emails or texts, simply let Dragon do the work for you. However, as users of Dragon on the desktop already know, you need to speak with proper punctuation, so as to make sure Dragon types exactly what you want to say with proper grammar.

As for pricing, Nuance is offering a free 7-day trial of Dragon Anywhere, but after that, get ready to shell out some serious dough for this software. For a single month, Dragon Anywhere costs $15. If you package months, you get a bit of a discount – a 3 month subscription is $40, and a 12 month package is priced at $150. Yes, that ain’t cheap for voice dictation.

Verizon Tweaks Prepaid Plans Again, Up to 4GB of Data for $60

Just over a month ago, Verizon made a bunch of tweaks to their prepaid line-up that were both somewhat confusing, as they were billed bi-monthly, and also not very good deals. Today, they’ve changed them all again to much more traditional monthly billing cycles, plus they included options for bonus data.

The new plans lock in at $60, $45, and $30 per month. The $60 plan has 3GB of data, but you can up that to 4GB, thanks to a bonus 1GB of data if you sign-up for autopay. Same goes for the $45 plan, which starts at 1GB, but can also be bumped up an additional 1GB to 2GB with autopay. The $30 plan doesn’t include a data package.

Verizon also opened up a couple of new “basic” phone plans for non-smartphones at $30 and $15 per month. The $30 plan includes unlimited talk, text, and mobile web. The $15 plan has 300 voice minutes, texts or multimedia messages, plus unlimited mobile web.

Verizon is Giving Away 1GB of Free Data Right Now for “Thanksgetting”

For the 2nd straight year, Verizon is trying to turn the day before Thanksgiving into some sort of freebie day, where they can promote their own products, along with those from others. Last year, they called it Connection Day or something really weird. This year, it has apparently changed to “Thanksgetting.” I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, but this day is like last year’s day before the feast in that Verizon is giving away free things.

Starting today, they are handing out 1GB of free data to everyone on Verizon with a qualifying plan. All you have to do is hit the link below, tap the “Get Now” link, sign-in to your account, and claim. The data will then be added to your account for use. The promo also seems to suggest that you will get another free 1GB in your next billing cycle as well. Free data!

The rest of “Thanksgetting” will include deals like free $5 iTunes gift cards, free boingo and GoGo internet, and more. Those deals, though, won’t be available until November 25.

Deal: Pay What You Want for the JavaScript Development Bundle

Android Wear Watches Get Marshmallow in “Coming Months,” Watch Urbane LTE Already has It

Hey, did you know that the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow? Well, it does. It’s the first Android Wear watch to do so, in fact. With that in mind, are you now wondering when your Android Wear device will receive the update? We have a vague answer.

According to Google, who outlined some of the changes in API 23 for Android Wear (API 23 = Marshmallow) through an announcement that API 23 was now available for Android Wear, the rest of the Android Wear watches on the planet will see an update to Marshmallow and API 23 over the “coming months.” Again, the new Urbane is already running Android 6.0, but you have months to wait. Got it?

As for what’s new in API 23, we talked a bit about it at the end of last week, after Google posted support docs that highlight new features. In general, we will see external speaker support, support for Intel x86 (TAG Heuer Connected runs an Intel chip), resource qualifiers for both round and notround, and a new permissions model.

Hey, John Legere, What do You Think About Sprint’s New 50% Deal?

After hyping an upcoming “major” announcement for this morning, Sprint went ahead and announced the “Biggest Wireless Offer in U.S. History.” The plan is a 50% slashing of all of the major US carriers’ plans, but also includes up to $650 per line to pay off early termination fees, should you leave your current carrier of choice and join Sprint. It certainly adds up to low prices, plus it comes on the heels of Sprint announcing its new LTE Plus network.

While we have already seen our readers react, there is another reaction that was guaranteed to be entertaining. We are talking about John Legere’s, of course, T-Mobile’s CEO who always likes giving it to Sprint and the rest of his competitors. However, his Sprint battles almost always seem to be the best of the bunch, since Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure is willing to fire back.

Here is what Legere had to say, through a series of Tweets that were meant to mock the countdown Sprint used leading up to today’s announcements.

Now, each carrier offers their own sets of incentives in their own way, so I’m not about to sit here and say, “Yeah, T-Mobile has the best this or that!” With that said, that point 4 he makes about the $36 activation fee, which is indeed in Sprint’s fine print, seems a bit crazy. You bring a family over and you are paying over $100 out of pocket just in activations. Maybe it’s worth that out of pocket expensive to have a 50% discount in your rate? I’ll let you decide that.

Anyways, I guess we’ll sit back and see if Verizon or AT&T have anything to say. (They probably don’t.)

Samsung Intros BRITECELL Camera Tech During Investors Forum

During Samsung’s annual Investors Forum, the company took time to detail upcoming plans for mobile photography, specifically on its upcoming 2016 top-tier devices. Announced during the slideshow, Samsung detailed BRITECELL camera technology, promising enhanced light sensitivity in low light conditions with less color artifact.

According to the head of the Samsung LSI marketing team Kyushik Hong, this technology helps reduce the camera module size by up to 17%, allowing for slimmer devices, while maintaining low light sensitivity at 1.12µm. Speaking on the desires of consumers, Hong stated, “As for the camera, people want higher resolution and brighter image. And naturally, that requires the bigger pixels to capture more light into the single pixel. But still with need to accommodate this immediate sensor into very small compactor so that it can comfortably tuck into very sleek and the slim phone design in these days.”

Beyond this info, not too much technical data was lifted from the announcement, but usually, ahead of a smartphone launch with new technology, Samsung releases plenty of more specific information.

Should we expect BRITECELL in the Galaxy S7? It seems like a safe bet, as Samsung has invested heavily on its in-house technology. This year, however, Samsung utilized both in-house ISOCELL sensors and Sony IMX sensors for its flagship devices. Regardless of what they choose in 2016, you can bet that the camera on the Galaxy S7 will probably be pretty great for your mobile photography needs.
