LG’s “Super Premium” 2nd Half Device May Not be Super Premium

Back in late July, it was reported that LG was planning a “super premium” smartphone for the 2nd half of 2015. It was thought that a second premium device for 2015 could help boost mobile device sales, but now, it appears a super premium device from LG for the second half of 2015 may not be in the works. 

Apparently, in a recent meeting with press, LG president Cho Joon Ho stated that no one at LG ever claimed a new device would be “super premium,” also portraying a look of cautiousness. Following that slightly awkward moment, Cho Joon Ho stated the company would be focusing on the, “medium and low-priced smartphone markets” in China and India. “I predict that LG Electronics will improve this situation by releasing new models after end of September that can correspond to these markets,” Cho Joon Ho continued.

In our eyes, the G4 is already rather premium, but a “super premium” device may have featured more metal and glass. With HTC focusing on metals, and Samsung working with glass and metals, LG would be one of the last major OEMs to rid their hardware designs of plastic.

If a 2nd half flagship device from LG was what you were hoping for, one that is not a Nexus device, then maybe you should control your excitement. Although, it seems completely reasonable that previous reports of a super premium device from LG could have been alluding to a Nexus device, before it was known the company was planning a partnership with Google to create one.

Whatever LG does release, whether it’s a Nexus phone or another flagship device, there will be lots of buying options for consumers in late 2015.

Koush’s New Vysor Chrome App Gives You Device Control Via Computer

Koush, a man of yachts, re-emerged on the dev scene this week with the release of a new Chrome app called Vysor (in beta still) that lets you control Android devices via computer. But not only does it let you mirror and control your Android devices, you can also share your Android device’s connection session with anyone else in the world through an easily shareable link. 

The latency is really low with the connection, so as you are touching apps, swiping around, etc., the mirroring is almost instant. But this whole sharing thing is something else. With your Android device attached, a click of a “Share” button creates a URL that anyone with Vysor can view. It’s pretty slick.

To get started, grab the Chrome Vysor app at the link below, then enable USB debugging on your phone or tablet, plug it in, and follow the simple instructions in the Vysor app.

Oh, and some simple shortcuts from your keyboard (Escape>Back button, F1>Menu, and Home>Home button) should help you move around.

AT&T HTC One M9 and One M8 Receiving Stagefright Patch Updates

The Stagefright exploit updates are still rolling out, with the AT&T One M8 and One M9 from HTC being the latest phones to receive the OTA patch. After the patch, users of these devices should no longer worry about receiving malicious MMS messages, as detailed in this post. 

The download size is rather small, ranging from 28 to 55MB. This means users should not expect to see updated versions of Android, or any other tweaks. This is simply a security patch for Android.

If you rock a One M8 or One M9 on AT&T, grab these updates as soon as possible.

Report: Wave of New Android Wear Devices to Debut at IFA

According to a report out of CNET, next month’s IFA trade show will be the launching pad for a wave of new Android Wear devices from multiple manufacturers. The group of OEMs reported to launch new Google-powered wearables includes Motorola, LG, Huawei, and ASUS. 

Likely included in this batch of new smartwatches is the Moto 360 (2nd Gen), the followup to last year’s Moto 360. We have seen the device hit the FCC, and it has also made its way to the streets of Chicago, meaning Motorola must be about ready to unveil it.

Also included in the “likely to be unveiled” category is the Huawei Watch, which was first debuted at MWC all the way back in February. It has been reported in the months following that Huawei has tweaked its initial design, making it a true competitor in the high-end wearable category.

The IFA timing makes sense, as the devices will likely go on sale sometime shortly or a bit after the trade show, perfect for the upcoming holiday season.

Please Don’t Put the Galaxy Note 5 S Pen in Backwards.

Hey, guy over there with the Galaxy Note 5, please don’t put your S Pen in backwards. If you do, you will probably break something in the phone, like the sensor that recognizes whether or not the S Pen is in or out of the phone. You may not even be able to remove it at all, actually. As with many things in life, it’s almost always a bad idea to put things in backwards. So, don’t do it with your S Pen. 

Don’t do it. Do the opposite of what Shia LaBeouf would tell you to do.

Why are we randomly bringing this up? Because people starting inserting their S Pens in backwards when the phone started arriving last week. Bad things happened. Really bad things.

We’ll see if Samsung responds. If they do, we’ll share their thoughts on #SPENBACKWARDSGATE.

Ahahahaha, HTC. No Way. Really?

Yesterday, this really terrible render of a supposed upcoming HTC device surfaced that we almost instantly ignored. Why? Because it looked like a terrible Photoshop job of an iPhone 6, with an HTC logo in place of the Apple logo and the camera and flash centered. Otherwise, it was an iPhone 6. It was bad. So bad, that we laughed at how bad it was, then laughed again before dismissing it forever.

And then these photos arrived a couple of hours later. 

I don’t know what to say.

Seriously, what? This can’t be reality?

Is it, though?

No.

Maybe?

Oh, come on, HTC.

I guess it worked for Samsung…

OK, please be real. This will be awesome.

Awesome as in, hilariously disastrous.

Verizon’s DROID MAXX 2, aka Moto X Play for the US…

Verizon’s DROID MAXX 2, aka the version of Motorola’s Moto X Play that appears to be the only X Play coming to the US, is starting to leak left and right these days. The phone is not official by any means, but it just can’t seem to stay out of sight until Motorola and Verizon have a chance to do that.

Thanks to new images, we now know just about everything, outside of a price and launch date. Here’s what we have. 

First, the phone looks identical to the Moto X Play, which is Motorola’s mid-tier Moto X device for the next 12 months. All those previous leaks were spot on in that this phone really would just be re-branded as a DROID when it arrived here. As far specs, it features a 5.5-inch 1080p display with on-screen navigation buttons (no capacitive!), 1.65GHz Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB internal storage (should be an SD slot up top too – Moto’s SIM trays are now doubling as SD slots), 21MP camera, 3630mAh battery, and Android 5.1.1.

The phone is sneaking around under the name “lux” and model number XT1565. The Moto X Play carries model numbers of XT1562 and XT1563, in case that all sounds familiar.
