Best Buy Hosting Clearance on Nexus 9 Tablets, 16GB Model for $359

For anyone looking to scoop up a tablet, Best Buy is now listing all Black variants of the Nexus 9 as “clearance items,” marking them down from $40 to $48. For your standard 16GB model in Black, the price is set at $360, down from its usual price of $400. For 32GB in Black, your price is $432, down from the MSRP of $480.

Do note, the Lunar White models are not currently listed as clearance, and neither of the tablets on sale feature LTE connectivity. These are the bare-bones, WiFi-only models.

The Nexus 9 is still a solid purchase decision in the tablet category, but may soon be replaced by whatever comes during the holiday season. We may not get a new Nexus tablet from Google this year, but there is never a lack of choices in the category.

If a Nexus 9 suits your needs, follow the links below.

For users on Project Fi, the official application found on Google Play has been updated, now supporting all Android devices running 5.1+. In addition to that change, users will benefit from an improved International roaming experience, with “more reliable” country detection. Google also states improvements to activation and connectivity have been made.

Check out the changelog below, then go grab it.

DEAL: New Unlocked Galaxy S6 for Just $469

Looking for the best price on a Samsung Galaxy S6? This is it. A current daily deal going on over at eBay for an unlocked GSM Galaxy S6 for $469 is about the best price we have seen to date. Remember, this phone launched at most US carriers for close to $700, so we are looking at over a $200 discount.

This is the international unlocked model of SM-G920i and works great on either AT&T or T-Mobile. This is an unlocked GSM phone, so don’t expect it to work on Verizon or Sprint.

The deal includes 32GB black, white, gold, and blue models, all for $469, along with free shipping.

Pocket Casts Updated With ‘Nearby’ Tab for Easy Podcast Discovery

The Pocket Casts application for Android, or Pocket Cats as I like to call it, received a major update on Google Play this week, introducing a “Nearby” tab for a more personal podcast discovery experience. Now, when you and fellow users are close to one another, and both users have this feature enabled, you can share your favorite podcasts, all without saying a word. But talking to strangers is sometimes good, so don’t rule that out completely.

If you are not already using Pocket Casts, Ron made a pretty good case for why people should be, citing the app’s hard-working developers and timely updates. Back in March, the app received a complete makeover to Material Design.

To top it all off, Pocket Casts lists a few bug fixes and optimizations in the official changelog on Google Play.

If you love podcasts, such as The Droid Life Show, go grab it.

Last night, Google posted new image files of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Preview 3 for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Nexus Player as build MPA44I. We aren’t sure why the sudden update was released, but they must have found something needing immediate attention.

The preview build was MPA44G.

You can grab the files at the download link below for each device. You’ll find factory image flashing instructions here.

Is Verizon Supporting Samsung Pay? They are Still “Evaluating” It.

Quick, take a look at this Samsung Pay website, scroll to the section in the middle that lists partners, and tell me who is missing. It’s obvious, isn’t it? Verizon is missing. Since Verizon is missing and the world just realized this fact yesterday, the internet got caught up in a series of “Verizon isn’t supporting Samsung Pay!” stories. Of course, those stories were developed from Twitter conversations with social media support handlers, which aren’t exactly go-to spokepersons for either Verizon or Samsung. And because of that, their word isn’t exactly the one you should go on.

We reached out to Verizon yesterday to get an official statement and were told basically what we expected to be told, that they are still evaluating the service.

Here is the statement:

We are in the process of evaluating Samsung Pay and we will keep our customers updated on any news regarding the service.

See. No where does that say, “We, Verizon, are not supporting Samsung Pay.” Nope, it says that they are “in the process of evaluating” it.

If you have followed this industry over the years, you know that Verizon is often slowest to jump on board with just about anything new. They have become famous for snail-like testing processes of new phones, new services, and maybe more importantly to this topic, mobile payment systems.

So, look, Verizon is more than likely going to get all up in the Samsung Pay train before this all plays out. If you are looking to compare this to the Google Wallet situation, you probably shouldn’t. They had their Google Wallet battle for years because they had their own product to push. With Samsung Pay, I’m not seeing a reason for them to not be a part of the program. This just seems like a similar situation to the one we saw play out with the Nexus 7 LTE years ago, where Verizon wouldn’t activate them because they hadn’t passed all of their testing procedures. Verizon is probably still just testing the damn thing, as they said in their statement.

Also, they have over a month to still test and sign off. Remember, Samsung Pay doesn’t launch in the US until September 28. If we get there and Verizon is still “evaluating,” let’s revisit this topic.
