Where and When to Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ in the US

Samsung is done with its Unpacked event, where it just unveiled the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. Now, after months of leaks leading up to this moment, it’s time to talk about where and when you can buy either phone.

According to Samsung (and now all of the carriers individually), both phones will be available on August 21 (next Friday) with pre-orders opening at many locations today, August 13.

Below, we have (and will continue update) info from each carrier below, including pricing and when exactly you can walk in and get your hands on each.

AT&T

Both phones can be pre-ordered starting today (August 13) at 3PM Eastern and will arrive August 21 in stores.

AT&T Samsung Buyback Offer: Current customers who upgrade to or buy a Galaxy S6 edge+ or Note5 on AT&T Next are eligible for a minimum $200 trade in value as an instant credit or promotion card on an eligible smartphone trade-in.
Switcher Offer: New customers that switch to AT&T from another carrier and purchase the Galaxy S6 edge+ or Note5 on AT&T Next will receive a $100 bill credit and $200 buyback credit when they trade in a smartphone.

Verizon hasn’t announced anything. We’ll update this section as we have info.

T-Mobile

You can pre-register to learn more about each device today, but the phones arrive August 21 in stores. The Note 5 will be available in Black Sapphire and White Pearl. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ will be available in Black Sapphire and Gold Platinum.

NVIDIA SHIELD Gains Support for Seven New Games on Google Play

Seven new games for NVIDIA SHIELD owners are available for download through Google Play today, a few of which were downloadable for other regular smartphones and tablets, but were not supported on the Android TV platform.

The list of games includes This War of Mine, Killing Floor: Calamity, Windward, Pure Pool, Flyhunter Origins, Xenowerk, and Twin Runners 2. They range in price from $0.99 all the way to $14.99, but you can rest assured you will be getting a solid game for your shiny NVIDIA SHIELD and HDTV.

The one I highly recommend is This War is Mine, priced at $14.99. In this game, you dodge daylight snipers, while upgrading and building a refuge in an apocalyptic world. At night, dare to venture outside your safe house to find supplies you and your comrades need to survive.

Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ Have Fast Wireless Charging, Full Charges in 120 Minutes

The sleeper announcement out of Samsung’s Unpacked event has got to be the fact that the new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ not only feature fast charging, but they are also the first devices on the planet to feature fast wireless charging. Yes, you read that correctly.

Thanks to a new wireless charger from Samsung, and embedded wireless charging technology in each phone, you can wirelessly charge each in 120 minutes. For comparison, a regular hard-wired fast charger can charge each in 90 minutes. And that’s with their big 3000mAh batteries. Not bad, right?

The wireless charger will be sold separately. As soon as we know pricing, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Samsung Pay Launches in the US September 28, Beta Trial Opens August 25

Along with its announcement of the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, Samsung also announced a starting date for its mobile payment system, Samsung Pay. The service finally arrives in the US on September 28, but there will be a beta trial period for select users that opens on August 25. If you live in Korea, well, you get to start using Samsung Pay as early as August 20.

At launch, Samsung Pay will be compatible with the new Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+, along with the previously released Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The Note 5 and S6 Edge+ will come preloaded with the software, while the regular S6 and S6 Edge will see a software update in mid-August to enable it.

As a recap, Samsung Pay could be the real future of mobile payments in that it can make payments through NFC or through Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST), which allows it to work through regular credit card terminals. MST emulates a credit card swipe, opening it up to almost any payment terminal.

At this time, Samsung is working to “expand its partnership ecosystem” and “anticipates working with payment networks such as, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa, major banks including Bank of America, Chase, U.S. Bank and key financial partners including First Data, Synchrony Financial and TSYS to extend Samsung Pay to the U.S.”

Samsung Announces Launch Dates for Groundbreaking Mobile Payment Service: Samsung Pay

Simple and Safe, Samsung Pay Works Virtually Anywhere You Can Swipe Your Card

SEOUL – August 13, 2015 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., unveiled today that Samsung Pay, a secure and easy-to-use mobile payment service that can be used to make purchases nearly everywhere cards are accepted, will launch in Korea on August 20 and in the U.S. on September 28. Samsung plans to roll out the service in the U.K., Spain and China, with partners to be named in each market.

Speaking at a Samsung event in New York where it unveiled its newest flagship devices – the Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5, JK Shin, CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics said, “With the launches of these exciting new smartphones, we will open a new era of mobile payment. This is Samsung’s brave step forward to enhance our mobile experience. It is easy, safe, and most importantly, available virtually anywhere you can swipe a card, in most cases without new costs for merchants, from day one.”

Samsung Pay will be preloaded on select Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5 devices and a free software upgrade will be rolled out beginning mid-August, to enable Samsung Pay on Galaxy S6 and S6 edge devices in the U.S. and Korea. Select U.S. users of Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+ and Note5 will be able to participate in a beta trial from August 25 ahead of the September 28 launch.

SIMPLE: To make a payment on Samsung Pay, users can simply swipe up, scan their fingerprint and pay.

SAFE: Samsung Pay uses tokenization, Samsung KNOX, and fingerprint authentication to provide secure payments and reduce the security risks inherent to plastic cards.

VIRTUALLY ANYWHERE: With Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) and Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies, Samsung Pay works with most existing point-of-sale (POS) terminals. That means it’s the only mobile payment service that works virtually anywhere you can swipe your credit card or debit card.

“The future of mobile payments has arrived,” said InJong Rhee, EVP of Samsung Electronics, Global Head of Samsung Pay. “We are partnering with card networks, issuers and acquirers, and Samsung Pay will also be the first to support contactless payment for store-branded credit cards. Samsung anticipates working with payment networks such as, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa, major banks including Bank of America, Chase, U.S. Bank and key financial partners including First Data, Synchrony Financial and TSYS to extend Samsung Pay to the U.S. Samsung anticipates working with all major Korean card companies including Samsung Card, Shinhan Card, KB Kookmin Card, Hyundai Card, Lotte Card, NH Nonghyup Card, BC Card, Hana Card, Woori Card and Citi Card.

Samsung just made the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ official at press events in both London and New York City. Both phones are available across the US on August 21, with pre-orders opening today. Also, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and Samsung Experience Shops at Best Buy will have previews of each phone available starting tomorrow.

As expected, the phones feature big 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED displays, but the S6 Edge+ has curves or dual-edges on its screen. They each have 4GB RAM, Exynos 7420 octa-core processors, 16MP cameras with OIS (f/1.9), 5MP front cameras (also f/1.9), fast charging and fast wireless charging, and run Lollipop.

Samsung is also launching Samsung Pay with these two devices in the US on September 28 and in Korea on August 20.

LG Extends $100 Visa Gift Card Offer for LG G4 on Verizon to End of August

LG told us today that its exclusive promotion through Verizon that gets you into a free $100 Visa prepaid card when you buy an LG G4 has “exceeded expectations” and has been extended through the end of August. The deal was originally supposed to end today, but you now can take advantage through August 31.

Verizon’s site doesn’t show the extended date just yet. LG’s, on the other hand, has already been updated to show the extension.
