HBO Now Available Today on Android and Amazon Fire Devices

HBO NOW, HBO’s internet-only service that doesn’t require a cable subscription, arrives on Android and Amazon Fire tablets starting today. That’s not all, though. If you download the app to your phone or tablet, HBO is tossing in a free 30-day introductory trial of HBO Now that can be accessed through Google Play or the Amazon Appstore. 

As a recap, HBO NOW allows you to subscribe to HBO without needing to also have a regular cable subscription. For $14.99 per month, you can access all of HBO while ditching Comcast or any other cable subscriber. The service can be accessed via computer, but also via Apple and Android devices.

Chromecast (or Google-Cast), Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Fire TV Stick will get access “soon.”

The app doesn’t appear to be live yet on Google Play, but you can sign-up for HBO NOW here.

Google Clock Update Brings Darker Blues, Brighter Reds

The Google Clock, which just recently decoupled itself from stock Android to nestle-in to the Play store, received an update this week that introduced “more neutral colors.” I’d call them dark blue and bright as hell red, but neutral works too, I guess. Below, you can see the differences between the new and old colors.

Along with the new color scheme, Google fixed a “duplicate provider installation” issue and another that involved the timer button.

The update drops in as v4.0.2. The update should be live now for all to download.

Motorola Hosting Event July 28, Says “Your Relationship Status is About to Change”

This little event invite just showed up in our inbox from our friends at Motorola. It looks like the Lenovo owned company out of Chicago has something to announce on July 28 in NYC. 

The invite says specifically that “Your relationship status is about to change,” followed by an “XOX, Moto.” Is that a hint at a new Moto X? Seems a bit early for Motorola to be announcing a new Moto X. Maybe a Moto G? Maybe a new Moto 360?

The last two years, Motorola gave us its next flagship towards the end of August or early September, so again, this all seems a bit early.

#HYPE Kill? “All” Snapdragon 810 Phones are Already Using V2.1, Says HTC

Let the Snapdragon 810 drama continue! According to HTC’s Jeff Gordon, king of the subtweet, all this chit chat about a newer Snapdragon 810 v2.1 being used by companies like OnePlus as a differentiator to help separate their phones from the 810’s history of melting faces isn’t exactly accurate. Gordon says via Twitter that Qualcomm told him “virtually all” manufacturers who have announced devices with the Snapdragon 810 “are currently using v2.1.” In other words, the One M9, which at one time wanted to melt your face off, is running the same V2.1 that OnePlus insists will be cooler than ever.

So yeah, the Snapdragon 810 v2.1 that is in the OnePlus 2 is the same 810 that has been in almost all of the previous 810 phones before it. 

One thing to keep in mind here is the fact that phones with the 810 inside have varied (sometimes greatly) in their heat output and performance. The M9 has always been fine in terms of day-to-day performance, yet certainly has history in the heat department. The G Flex 2 didn’t ever get all that hot for us, but it was terrible when it came to daily performance. And the Xperia Z4 or Z3+ or whatever Sony wants to call it today, is apparently a disaster when you do something as mundane as using the phone’s camera.

I guess if you are a OnePlus fan, you better hope OnePlus really has taken its time in getting this chipset to work perfectly with the OnePlus 2. We’ll find out in less than two weeks if they have.

Zero Punctuation: Hatfall Will Make You Rage, But It’s Fun

Over on Google Play, Defy Media published Zero Punctuation: Hatfall, a fast-paced game about a single thing — putting on hats. Now, it’s not as simple as putting on a hat, as the game is made up of a bunch of mini games, each getting harder as you progress through the stages. 

In the mini games, you move your character from left right, placing him under the shadow of a hat as it falls to you. Although, be careful, as it’s not always a hat falling. It could be a fridge or spear, which kills you, forcing you to start over. Like other games of this nature, it takes a bit to learn the steps to complete each mini game, but with time, you can master it. And, with the more hats you collect, the more fun stuff you can purchase in the hat store.

Hatfall costs just $2 on Google Play, and if you go look at the reviews, it is mostly loved by all who play it.
