NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Lollipop 5.0.1 Update Adds A Custom Power Menu, HD Camera Effects, And More

nexus2cee_stthumb1 NVIDIA is certainly hanging on to its reputation for speedy device updates, at least when it comes to the company's flagship Tegra tablet. The SHIELD Tablet is receiving its first post-Android 5.0 update, to the 5.0.1 build that's only a couple of weeks old in AOSP. But the gaming company isn't content to add the few behind-the-scenes changes from Google, and has added a few new tricks of its own, including one highly requested feature from previous versions of Android.

Rumor: Xiaomi Is Developing Company’s Very Own Operating System

Xiaomi company_33

We’ve been getting a lot of Xiaomi news lately. The company had a great year and they’ve recently stumbled into some problems in India when Ericsson sued the company for allegedly infringing on eight of their patents. Xiaomi got a partial ban for selling devices in India (though the full ban will start in January) and the company has to resolve those issues with Ericsson as soon as possible in order to continue doing business as usual. We’ve also seen some Xiaomi’s alleged handsets leak recently, but nothing concrete on that front.

We did, however, receive a new rumor from China which is really, really interesting. Xiaomi’s MIUI OS is based on Android, we all know that, but this rumor claims that Xiaomi has been working on its own operating system for a while now. According to this rumor, the new operating system will be called “MIOS” and it will look more or less exactly like MIUI. Keep in mind that this is just a rumor, we have no way of verifying any of this and quite frankly it look a bit far-fetched. Xiaomi is doing great at the moment and it just doesn’t make any sense for the company to move away from Android, but if they actually go through with this, this OS will certainly be Linux-based.

Samsung did something similar with their Tizen OS, but we all know how that went, it didn’t go as well as planned for this Korean tech giant. There are many obstacles to something like this, especially the app ecosystem, it’s hard to create a whole new ecosystem from the ground up and make it succeed, even a huge corporation like Samsung is having issues doing that. Xiaomi is a really young company, this Chinese smartphone OEM was founded back in 2010, and I don’t believe they have the resources to make something like this happen and succeed in the end and do believe it’s far better choice for the company to stick with Android for the foreseeable future. What do you think, do you think that Xiaomi should stick with Android?

Xiaomi’s Mysterious Handset Poses For The Camera

Xiaomi upcoming device leak_1

Xiaomi has had an extremely successful year, despite some issues that they have to deal with at the moment. This Chinese smartphone OEM is growing at an incredible pace and it will be interesting to see what happens with the company in 2015. Xiaomi has also confirmed that they won’t participate at CES in Las Vegas next month, which basically means we won’t see the Mi5 launched there. We did however see some alleged Mi4S / Mi5 images yesterday and today we get yet another batch of images of an unknown Xiaomi device.

If you take a look at the gallery below this article, you’ll notice two new images which show us one of Xiaomi’s upcoming handsets, allegedly. It is unknown which device this is though, it somewhat resembles the Mi3 though. This might end up being the Xiaomi Mi4S / Mi5 or perhaps the new Redmi Note handset, who knows. Perhaps Xiaomi is preparing a whole new line of devices to announce sometime in the future, anything is possible really. What do you think which device is this, is it the successor to the Mi4, Redmi Note, or is it something completely different?

I doubt Xiaomi will launch the Mi5 successor anytime soon considering the Mi4 was announced in the second half of 2014, though they might bring us an Mi4S or something similar. Redmi Note’s successor is a possibility though, the original Redmi Note was launched in March 2014, so Xiaomi might launch the Redmi Note 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) in Q1 2015. There are a lot of possibilities at the moment, Xiaomi is on the right path, but they must pick what to launch carefully, they don’t want to saturate the market with a bunch of poor handsets like Samsung did in the last couple of years. Xiaomi didn’t do that thus far, so I doubt they’ll change their approach, but as I said, everything is possible.

Do you think Xiaomi will be able to keep up their current growth rate in 2015 and actually meet their plans? As a side note, Xiaomi plans to sell 100 million devices in 2015, which is 40 million more than they planned this year.

Meizu M1 Note Gets Unboxed And Compared To The Meizu MX4 And MX4 Pro

Meizu M1 Note unboxing China_4

Meizu’s Blue Charm Note handset has been leaking like crazy over the last couple of weeks. The company has finally announced this handset yesterday and its name is different than expected. Meizu decided to call this device the Blue Note in China and M1 Note internationally, we’ll use the latter naming, of course. This handset is an extremely affordable piece of technology and offers great specifications of the price, I’d even go as far as saying this is the best budget smartphone under $200 you can buy at the moment and it will probably stay that was for a while.

We’ll review this handset in the future, as soon as possible that is, and will have a ton of our own images to share with you. You can take a look at our hands-on images from the event itself, if you’d like. The device got unboxed in China in the meantime and if you’d like to see how that went, take a look at the gallery below this article, you’ll find plenty of images showing you the Blue and White version of this handset as well as the content of the box like the charger, charging cable, etc. Meizu MX4 and MX4 Pro are also shown in some of these images and compared to the M1 Note handset.

Meizu M1 Note sports a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) IGZO display by Sharp along with 2GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of non-expandable internal storage. MediaTek’s MT6752 SoC is powering on this handset, this is a 64-bit octa-core SoC clocked at 1.7GHz which ships with Mali-T760 GPU for graphics processing. 13-megapixel shooter is located at the back of this handset and there’s also a 5-megapixel camera available on the front side of this device. 3410mAh battery comes with this device and will offer you plenty of time on a charge according to Meizu. M1 Note comes in a bunch of color variants: Yellow, Green, Yellow, Pink and Blue. This handset is already available for pre-order in China directly from Meizu or Jingdong Mall. The 16GB version of this handset will cost you 999 Yuan ($160), while the 32GB model will set you back 1,199 Yuan ($194).

Let us know what you think of this device, do you like it, or not? Would you consider buying this handset for said price?
